I thought I had it covered Ciara had 3 puppies a week ago today. 2 girls and 1 boy. The boy cried all the time. I'd go over and move him onto the heating pad and he's stop for awhile. Ciara was frantic when he cried, but he was gaining weight. I just thought he was a whiney baby. In the meantime, Cookie doesn't like it that Ciara has babies and at first wanted to attack her any chance she got. I keep a gate up in the hall to keep Cookie out of my bedroom during the day. The puppies are in my bedroom closet. And, at night I thether Cookie to the head of my bed so she won't get down and bother Ciara's puppies. Ciara is in and out of my bed all night. I thought I had everything figured out, but for some reason, this morning, while I was still sleeping, Ciara brought her baby boy up on the bed. She and Cookie woke me up fighting over something. By the time I got it away from them and figured out that it was that little baby boy, it was to late. He was dead. I don't know what else I could have done. I've tried keeping both girls in and xpen or a playpen when they have babies, but they both go right over the top. I was afraid one of them or a puppy would get hurt. Maybe that would have been better, because maybe Ciara couldn't have got over the top with a puppy in her mouth. |
So sad.. I'm sorry this happened. I don't think you should blame yourself, you could not have foreseen this. |
So sorry that you lost the little boy. |
I am so sorry |
I'm so sorry...How sad :( |
I'm so sorry for your loss! 1st of all, it's really hard to "save" a cryer. There is usually something wrong. Ciara bringing him to your bed is an indication that she knew it too, and wanted you to help him. You might want to purchase some wire crates for safety and peace of mind. |
Omg, I am so sorry. What a horrible thing to wake up to :( I am so sorry for your loss. |
So sorry to hear about your loss...It is never easy... You can purchase an ex-pen top to keep the girls safely inside their ex-pens...You can find them here... PetEdge.com Wholesale prices on exclusive dog grooming and pet supplies |
I am so sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you. You might look into buying a top for an ex-pen or a puppy pen with a top. I have had climbing moms and the puppy pens with tops were really helpful. In the meantime, please don't blame yourself, you could not have anticipated this. |

I found an old travel crate that I used to use when we went on trips with our bigger dog. I\'ve put her in that with the puppies last night and I\'ll put them back in that tonight before I go to bed. Thanks. |
