Supplimenting/ Tube feeding We were tube feeding Pixie's little girl, since she was having problems breathing, and couldn't latch on. Right now she seems to be doing great, she's latched on, and seems to have cought on to how to suckle... My question is, should I continue the tube feedings too? I stopped them when she started latching on around midnight last night. and have been up at least every two hours making sure she's latching on, and suckling. She's gained .3 oz. So she's up to 2 oz, her sister is 3.3 oz. I'll do anything I have to to keep her thriving. |

As long as she is gaining weight, I would stop tube feeding. Be sure to keep a close eye on her weight and if she starts to lose weight, start the tube feeding again. I'm tube feeding a little girl right now. She has just made her turn around today and has gained .2 of an ounce. It's been alot of sleepless nights and still is but great to see her gaining. Good Luck! I hope she continues to thrive. |

I would bottle feed if you have to supplement but if she's latching on and gaining I wouldn't do anything |

Thank you guys, I really appriciate the responses. She wans't suckling right after birth, so tubefeeding was the only way to get some nutrients and liquid in her. She was a little dehydrated when she came out, plus they were premature on top of everything. They were due Oct. 11th, or this saturday, but I guess they just couldn't wait to make their appearance :D |

I know what you mean about the tube feeding. Mine was also premature and couldn't suckle so tube feeding saved her life. |

since there are only 2 in your litter, you can be sure she's getting her share. So you don't have to continue tube feeding. If you wanted to for your peace of mind, she may gain a little quicker and get a little stronger with a feeding or two a day. Of course, you don't have supplement with a bottle or syringe. |

Pixie's been vomiting, She has a really sensitive stomach, and I've been giving her whelping pooding, I'm not sure if it's because of that. I checked her temp, and it's at 101.9 . Is the vomiting after giving birth normal or? |
|
Her temp is fine. Did she eat the placentas? This could cause her to vomit. Is she vomiting alot, as in many times? |
|
I'd say about 5 times since this morning. It's about 3 pm here. |
|
Just be sure you keep her hydrated and if the vomiting continues, call your vet. She could just have an upset stomach from the placentas and cleaning up after the puppies, since you said that she has a weak stomach. Keep tabs on her temperature too. |

Pixie freaked me out! I went in the bedroom, to check on her and the puppies, and her whelping box was EMPTY!! no Pixie, and no Puppies!! that scared the *@#$& out of me! I'd honestly thought someone broke in while I was in the living room and took them :D I finally found them in my closet. She'd relocated the family... I think she liked the closet better since it was darker. So I covered up her box with a blanket, and turned off all the lights... hopefully she'll like that better... well, she stopped vomiting, I thought I'd try the boiled chicken with rice to see if that went down ok, and it did! though now she has diarrhea... I'm going to keep giving it to her, it usually takes her a couple of days to get used to new food... poor Pixie... |

How much to supplement? Can anyone tell me what the appropriate amount (mL) is for supplementing...does it go by oz of the puppy? Our littlest is 2oz and we've been doing 1mL every 2 hours, per our vet, however I saw on a couple of posts that we may need to be doing more. Any advice would help. Thanks! |
