Candy's Big Adventure First let me start out by saying how excited I am to find a forum full of people who actually help people instead of just putting people down! I read a few threads today just as a step in my research and was so pleased with how things are handled here I had to join! Our little girl, Candy, is pregnant for the first time and we are very excited and scared all at once! We do not have children yet so our dogs are our world! I am a big reader anyways so I think Ive read just about everything there is to read online about dog breeding in the past year or so but my thirst for knowledge on the subject is still not quenched! We are not breeding for money or even considering becoming regular breeders. We simply love our dogs and want to share their amazing qualities with a few lucky people. We already have more good homes than we need i'm sure haha. Unfortunately, I do not have someone with experience to help me but I do have an amazing vet who responds very well to an emergency and isn't in it just to see how much money they can squeeze out of you. (They were tested when our husky had his accident) I plan on counting on him every step of the way if need be. She has just entered her seventh week and we plan on going for an xray soon. We will also be setting up her whelping box in the next day or two. As I said I'm always looking for more knowledge on the subject and would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, advice, knowledge or stories anyone has to share! (Along with new yorkie loving friends!) Also if I need correcting on anything because it is my first time! Thanks! |
I dont have any breeding advice for you but WELCOME to our little corner of the world! Enjoy! The only advice I do have is, just LOVE THEM.... d |
First off - Welcome to YT! You've come to the right place! I just had my first litter last October (on Halloween) so I know all about the reading/researching/panicking  -- Here is something that I learned - the hard way... Please have your girl tested multiple times for her calcium levels. (before & after whelping) My vet did not suggest this, and we almost lost my Gellica 2 weeks after giving birth to eclampsia. We had to rush her to the ER, and thankfully, she was okay but we had to hand feed the babies after that. It's not an easy task, but luckily we were prepared. We had read about this, and we gave her cottage cheese, and other calcium treats, but it just wasn't enough. You can never be too prepared!! Good luck to you!! Can't wait to see pictures of the babies! Also, you should wait until day 50-55 for x-rays. Our vet told us that 6 weeks was far enough along, but the x-ray came back and he saw nothing. We were devestated and thought she was having a fake pregnancy, turns out -- he was wrong!! So, now we know! |
Candy started her 8th week today as far as my calculations go but I'm wondering if I may be off a week? She has no milk yet (which i understand can come in as late as a day before the birth) and I have not seen or felt any movement. Here's some pics from a few days ago <img src=http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q33/Jermworm10/Picture336.jpg> <im src=http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q33/Jermworm10/Picture339.jpg> <img src=http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q33/Jermworm10/Picture335.jpg> |
Hi and welcome! You've come to the right place for help with your whelp :D I had my one and only litter (so far) just about one year ago (Oct 14) and I too read anything and everything I could find. Now since then, I come here to learn more & help when I can, while waiting for the time that I can do it again. I am currently waiting for my new little girl to become a "woman":p So stick around, don't be a stranger, and ask away for any help you might need. There is always someone here willing to lend an ear and their advice. BTW, your pics didn't come through....try again; we'd love to see some prego pictures of Candy. |
We went to the vet today! He says she looks good. She is 48 days along which means right about Halloween haha! And we saw FOUR little guys in there! We are so excited! |
