Vet Charges for removing dew claws and docking tails
 
A friend of mine was just charged $200 by a vet in AZ to dock the tails and remove the dew claws on two puppies. This seems a little outrageous to me and I was curious to see what vets were charging people for this?

just checked with my sister in Tucson, AZ and she paid $102 for three puppies.

That is really crazy.... Just had 5 puppies tails and dew claws for a total of $35.00....

If it was that cheap around here I may rethink doing it myself. It's just not my favorite thing to do. I usually paid about $150. for 4 puppies.

That is my thoughts exactly..... If I were having to pay what you guys are paying I would certainly add upon my repertoire of skills :D I do have a very good relationship with my vet and have been a client forever, so I cannot attest to the fact that everyone pays that rate. $20.00 a puppy is quite steep..... as he also gives each puppy a full exam as well... I guess I need to thank him on my next visit! BTW, I don't know if you read the thread I started, but I am looking for a new female... I have two rotating out of our kennel at the end of the year. I am not finding anything locally I would want to place in my kennel.....so off I go to parts unknown.... If you know of any, would you give me a heads up....

That does seem expensive. I think mine was around 90.00 for six puppies to get tails and dew claws done.

the ones in town are about 16-25per puppy
i drive about 45 minutes out of town and pay 10

I would die if it was that expensive here. It's only like 3.00 to 4.00 per pup at my vets office for Docking and dew claws and They stitch up each tail.

I was just wondering if the pups were older to charge that much? I have my puppies done at 2 days old. What age does everyone else have theirs done at?

Jeri: Which vet are you going? I had to pay over $200 for 3 puppies!!!

WOW..that's crazy...:eek:
I had my one single pup done at 3 day and it was 10.00 total for the
tail and dewclaws.
It if was that high here, I think I'd be learning to do it myself.

Anybody know a good vet in the Phoenix / Mesa area who's prices won't give you a heart attack?

I Hae been checking around and the vet here charges 10 for the first and 7 for every pup after

I just checked here in MI and our vet charges $26 per puppy. I forgot to ask about multiple pups.
