Abbey's not pregnant I had blood work done on Abbey on thursday because she still was throwing up every once in a while and I needed to make sure that she wasn't just sick instead of being pregnant. We had her bred in Aug. 4 good ties she is 2 years old. The first time we tried she was 18 months old but no ties no interest at all from any of the studs. I was soooooooo excited I really thought she was going to give me beautiful babies. I've been getting all the whelping stuff together reading whelping books, watching whelping videos. Now I won't have to wait for puppies that aren't coming but what a bummer! I want advice should I give up? Anyone had same experience? What can I do to have a better chance next time? I took her to the stud and he is proven, the breeder knows what she is doing with 20 yrs experience. Any ideas ???? |
I know you're disappointed. It's hard when we get our hopes up. If her experience stud tied with her, she should've took. She could have missed (timing) but a good stud usually knows when the time is right. I'd also have to wonder if they really did tie. She may have fertility problems. |
Abbey not pregnat I'm also thinking fertility problem but is there anything I can do? Should I give up? I was reading about estrus strips to see when she's ovulating anyone use these, do they work? And yes the dogs did get 4 good ties, on Aug 9th she came into heat as far as we know that was her first day. We were on vac. for the 9 days prior to that and our daughter kept her. She didn't notice any blood while we were gone so I assumed she just started her heat on the 9th of Aug. The breeder had us take her assumed this time thinking that we must has missed ovulation the last time. (the studs had no interest at all that time) so anyway she was bred on days 14, 15,17,19. I kinda thought one more time would be good because she (the breeder ) started a little early but the stud had lost interest so we picked her up. She got so sick at about 2-3 weeks into it that we were sure it was morning sickness, but guess not.:( |
That's pretty late in her cycle, she may have just missed. Breeding on days 9, 11 and 13or 10, 12 and 14 is ideal. |
Abbey not pregnat I meant that she was bred on Aug. 14th, 15th 17th and 19th that was days 6,7, 9, and 11 of her heat as far as we could tell. |
my yorkie may not be pregnant too I had my female studded and this is the 8th week. She may be having a false pregnancy as her belly has not gotten very large. She has gained weight and has teats enlarged. My question to you is how much did the blood test cost. I have chosen to wait this out as why pay to be disappointed? I have read some dogs do not show until the last week. My dog is long waisted so this may be the case. I just am hesitant to get a test that may discourage me. Will you try again with your yorkie? |
Abbey not pregnat Vet prices vary is to say the least but @ Abbey's regular vet I paid over $200 and yes I was very disappointed but I really did it to make sure she was pregnant and not just sick.............which was the case (SICK) and yes I will with the help of our vet try again. We will test to see if and when she ovulates. Laurie |

Hopefully next time it will be successful! |
waiting Im going to wait this out as my dog is not sick. If she isnt pregnant I will get the fertility test next time. I mated her on the 12th day of her heat,2 times. Looks like one day 2 times may not of done the job. By Nov. 2nd I should know. Thanks. |
