What scale do you use?
 

After the puppies have been born what type of scale do you use to weigh the pups? They are just so tiny I cant imagine a scale even being able to read something so small. Where can I purchase one at?

Now this sounds familiar!! LOL I wondered this but we have (apart from vets scales) scales at home but ours are in kgs whiich are more reliable and sure enough our babies don't register but if YOU step on and go from there you get your babies weight!! Our Gizzie is now (in American terms 3.,9 lbs and this is the onloy way I could do it!!) LOL we used to weigh in lbs too but scales have changed ...!!

For new litters, I would recommend buying either an electronic scale ($40 or more) at a kitchen store or asking your vet where he/she gets his/hers from. The $10-20 scales at Walmart are not going to measure a 1.2 lb baby accurately. Expensive, but if you plan to breed continuously, it will pay off in the long run -- you can show prospective parents the pup's weight from birth to present from week 1 up ... Good luck! Oh, you might also try a restaurant supply store; they always have stuff much cheaper than the chain bed, bath and kitchen stores.

:eek: This is weird that a question came up about a scale!! After The Toto's vet visit last week and she weighed in at 4 lb. 8 oz., Patrick immediately ordered a scale and we received it yesterday!! It's great ... Toto weighed in at 4 lb. .14 1/2 oz. yesterday. She already lost weight!! Well, currently I weigh Gracie at work in a steel mixing bowl sitting on the postage meter scale! The bowl weighs 8.8 oz. so I deduct that from the overall weight and that's what Gracie is!

BETTYANNE! What a wonderful resource. We do a lot of cooking and we've been holding out on buying a really good scale for measuring exact ounces, but they sell for way too much at the kitchen stores. And we need one for Luca Dean; I weighed him at work everyday last week and Dr. May thought it was so funny. I saw your post of congrats and about the zoo person from Auburn. Well, my sister-in-law to be is in Auburn and is going to vet school. We are all so happy for her! She loves it there b/c Keisel Park has a true actual full DOG AGILITY COURSE! She thinks the people are nicer too, but she's still BAMA FAN 100%!!!

I use a royal postal scale. Weighs within .1 oz. There is about a .1 - .2 difference in this and our vets scale. Ours is heavier. It sits on my desk and she now knows when I put her on it she has to sit and stay til it beeps. then she runs and barks at it.

Thanks! My daughter wanted to be a vet all her life ... but seems to keep putting her "higher education" on hold! Her husband promised me, if I "gave him her hand" when she was a senior in high school that he would see to it that she did it! Yeah, sure! They married the year after graduation and I have been "nagging" ever since ... she still actually plans to go but I would like to actually still be living when she graduates college!! :eek: I really have to give the "devil his due" when it comes to Auburn's veterinary program ... I believe it's one of the best in the country! :o Our poodle Nicole [RIP] jumped off a sofa and her whole rear was paralized ... our vet wanted to send her to the hospital at Auburn ... I have never been so impressed in my entire life! She had two neuro docs and was assigned an entire "team" of students to care for her! Fortunately for me, they were able to use "cage therapy" and after several weeks I was able to bring her home for the rest of her recovery. The "team leader" called me every single night with a report and the doctors were available for any questions/concerns 24/7. It was kinda funny ... one of the students looked familiar to me ... come to find out, when I was Admin. Asst. for our regional EMS agency, she had come to some of our CEU courses ... she was an RN who worked at UAB as a flight nurse!! She told me she had always wanted to be a vet ... so she is!! ;) Small world!! Agility is something I really wish we could involve Toto in .... I believe she would do well!!

I got mine from ebay it is a baby scales weighs in ounces pounds grams everything I think I gave around 75.00 with shipping it is very good

Do you have a link for this scale? My vet said I should use a postal scale to weigh the puppies. So now I am looking for a scale that is accurate.

I use a postal scale......it is very accurate......but it only goes to 5 lbs.

I agree Ebay is a good place to find one, thats probably where I will get a 10 lb one.
