Molly had 3 boys! I have a question - there was a sac with a little petrified fetus inside - has that happened to anyone else? The momma tried to eat it - I thought it was afterbirth, so I grabbed it because she had already eaten two - then I saw what it was. The sac was black... |
oh no! i have not heard of this but i havent been in the breeding world that long..i hope someone can give you more info im so sorry!! |
oh, so sad! But the other two puppies are fine? |
No, she had three boys that are fine - the fourth one was the one that was stillborn... |
Congrats on the 3 healthy boys. I figured she was getting close. Get some rest while you can! |
I've had that happen with my friends pups. The mom was fine and the other pups were fine too. It was shocking and very sad but sometimes it does happen. When my friend took her to the vet the next day and told him about the pup, he said that most likely there was just not enough room for it to grow (she was a small girl) and that pup was tiny. |
So here's a question for you wise ones out there ;) Molly's boys are all energetic and nursing well. I weighed them around 11pm last night and 6am this morning. The littlest one is only 1.75 ozs - but this morning was up to about 2ozs- he was so tiny and skinny when he was born, and now has a little pot belly. He worries me because he is so small - any word of wisdom on tiny ones? Thanks! |
im not a breeder yet ....but im sure others will also tell you these things also....... 1.keep him warm 2. feed him every 1 1/2 -2 hours...but dont over feed if needed ...mommy may be able to keep him fed. 3.make sure he is peeing and pooping 4.MY OPINION.....i would try not to touch him too much....he is so so tiny and could get sick very very easily.. ok...pics please |
I live in Phoenix - no problem keeping them warm ;) He is peeing and pooping - I saw them all poop last night - and mom is licking them so I am sure they are peeing. I have been handling them - making sure to wash my hands REALLY well first - to help make sure the littlest one latches on and stays warm and in a group |
I suggest with the tiny one especially, to make sure that he is eating well and try to let him use the best teat (the ones near mama's tail I believe are better). If the others seem to crowd him out & even if not, it may also be benificial to give the tiny some alone feeding time to make sure he gets his share. Weigh him at least twice a day to make sure he is maintaining & gaining weight. Good luck, and yes, pictures please! :) |
I weighed them last night at 11pm and this morning at 6.30am - he was 50 grams (1.75 oz) last night and 75 grams (2.5 oz) this morning - so he really did well overnight - when he was born he was so skinny and tiny, but this morning he had a nice round belly. He is the most aggressive nurser - momma will stand up and he is still hanging on sucking away! I will post pics tonight - if I can figure it out! I am at work (my sis who is a breeder is home with them) and I can't quit obsessing about them - I am so worried they wont all make it :( |
