Lost pigment while having puppies- what to do? My bitch lost almost all of her pigment (nose and nails are ok) because (?) of the puppies. I'm expacting it to come back, but is there anything I can do to speed it up a bit? She does not produce milk anymore, but of course her tits are swollen and sagging. Anything to do on that area? Thanks! |
Are you talking about the saddle color? I've heard of this happening after pregnancy, I haven't read of anything you can do about it though. |
It's the hormones. You can try Norwegian Sea Kelp in her food and a bit of sunshine usually helps a bit as well. Heredity plays a big role in the retention of pigment so there's only so much you can do. |
It's mostly around her eyes that I'm thinkin. Her saddle turned into dark blue some time ago, now it has faded on the lower parts and thighs, but at the topline it's ok, pregnancy didn't change that. Thanks for the tips! BTW, I've noticed that pigment on the eyelids does fluctuate, it's not the same all the time. Strange... |

I heard that this is very common. My female has just had her second litter and with her first she lost just a small amount of coloring and after her second she is a lot litter. I have looked it up online and some websites say that this is a common occurance.:) I love her just the way she is she is still beautiful. |
This is a very interesting thread. I have never heard of the nose and eye rims and nails changing color after pregnancy. I know that after my females first litter, her coat color change quite a bit--her blue coat took on a lot more tan near her hind quarters--but only on the top, the underneath is still as blue as ever. (If that makes sense at all, I don't know who to better describe it.) I'd always heard it was a due to a hormonal change that pregnancy often brings on. Very interesting topic. :) |
