So sad for a client....
 

I am really upset over this, I am a dog groomer and i do have some really wonderful clients. I groom so many yorkies and see every shape and size, people with yorkies usually come to me cause I have two and ADORE the breed...
Well I am also a big believer that unless you have a mentor, understand 'breeding ethics', understand the importance of health testing, etc then do not breed...just my opinion.

I had a client who came very 5 weeks with her little yorkie, she weighed maybe 6 lbs, sweet little thing (just don't hit a snarl!!). She decided she was going to breed her yorkie, I asked her to really look into it, gave her my advice and even gave this websites address and told her that these people will give her the advice she needs...but she was so sure she would be fine...

She called me tonight at home (my shop is commercial and in another town) crying. Her yorkie passed away this afternoon, she was at work and she went into labour, the by the time she got home and raced her to the vet it was too late. Both pups died a few hours later (I am assuming she had a c-section, she was crying very hard).
I don't know all the details or what went wrong but it was a risk I had warned her about and I feel horrid because this dog meant so much to her.


We cried together on the phone, I have been grooming this dog for over a year. It is just really, really sad.
I just wanted to share because I cannot imagine going through this, I know we say it 'can' happen, well today it did happen.

That is such a horrible thing to happen to that poor momma dog. It upsets me so much that so many people don't understand how dangerous it can be for these little dogs to have puppies. You cannot just leave them alone and assume everything will be okay. Thanks for sharing that story. Maybe it will open some eyes.

I'm so sorry that this happened to your client. No matter how much we tell them people just don't seem to understand the risk, they just think breeding will be fun. I hate to see them loose their pet when something goes wrong. Thanks for sharing her story, it may save a life and a heart.

I am so very sorry that your client thad this breeding disaster. I cannot begin to imagine the horrors the poor little mamma suffered while her mistress was at work.

Very sorry to hear what happened! It breaks my heart to think she was all by herself and how it all ended!

OMG that is so sad. :( Like DejaVu said, it does break my heart also to think what that poor Yorkie girl went thru trying to have those puppies all by herself. :( Plus the babies dying also.

I do feel sorry for your client. It does sound like she loved her Yorkie girl. It's just way sad that she and her Yorkie girl had to learn the hard way and paid the price for it, so to speak. :(

I always say...if you're not ready to lose your dog..please do not breed.

That is so sad. My heart is breaking for her.

OMG that is so sad! This is so heartbreaking to hear. I wish this post could be a sticky and a "REQUIRED TO READ" post before deciding to breed. This is the very thing breeders continually try to warn people who want to breed their pets about.. yet they always get flack from others who do not want to hear it or believe it or think it won't happen to then. And the poor mother dog is the one who paid for it.. SO SAD!

This is so sad to hear. I'm sure the owner is heartbroken and you must be too since you groomed the little girl for so long. I feel especially bad to think of the agony the little Mom went through, and all by herself, too. The pain, and the fear, must've been just horrible. Every time we hear of such a tragedy, we all grieve. There is nothing on this earth with a more loving spirit than a Yorkie and we all feel the loss of these little angels. RIP, Little Ones.

I am really upset over it, this was a fun little dog who was quick to learn etc.

Mom just wanted another pup but did not want to pay the money and this was a quick and easy way to get a 'free' pup (her words not mine).

The irony? No pup, no beloved pet and huge vet bills that now have to be paid.

I have another customer I fired, she has a shih tzu and bred her. Our of the litter of 4 I groomed 3, 2 of which were on their second home by the 5th month, both were infested with fleas, eye infections and ear infection.
The other one I groomed came through the SPCA, she was seized because she had been beaten so badly from her new owners...she was JUST a pup...

I upset me SOOO much that when the 'breeder' called to make and appt I refused and told her I wasn't the groomer for her. Personally my ethics were making my decision, I could not enable her...it is sad when the breeder would brag she needs to get the Mom cleaned up because people were coming to see her and well she had not been groomed/brushed/bathed in over 7 months...everytime I see that dog was was a pelt, and of course the owner wants me to brush her out (not going to happen) and this shih tzu is NASTY mean!! I lied and said it was mostly behaviour but in truth it was the owners behaviour and the sad results of selling puppies super cheap to make a quick buck.

I applaud all the breeders who give it their all to finding new homes for their pups and the ones who work hard to improve the breed.

As a dog groomer I see the end result of breeding...from poor genetics (bad knees, allergies, etc) to temperment and sometimes the sad cases that come through from thr SPCA (we groom for free for them) and it is even more bitter to see a dog you know, recognize or know the breeder.

I do get to see some wonderful well kept dogs who have wonderful back grounds and breeders who care.

Very sad...As a fellow groomer I know just how you feel...Many clients here do not spay/neuter their pets...I always get the line "Well if I paid 700 for my pet then I can make my money back and then some"...I try and explain...Sometimes it makes a difference and sometimes not...Unfortunately your client lost her beloved pet and a lovely yorkie lost her life because her owner wasn't there for her!...
