Teats At what point do females make milk...or even have a change in their teats? Is it possible that the teats not be swollen until close to the due date? |
Usually they don't start producing milk until a couple days before the puppies are born. Some won't even start until the day of delivery. |

On my girls, the nipples are swollen but I don't really SEE the teats swollen. When they have their babies, however, the swelling is obvious as soon as there's some slack in the belly. They really are swollen but you don't see it because the babies have Mom so stretched out that you can't tell. |
I have a friend that was asking. She has a first time bred female and she has not taken her for a preg check...But she is about 3 weeks from her first possible due date....She has not made any kind of change in her teats. If you feel them there MIGHT be a small amount of knot but. .... And she is has only ganed about 5 oz? She has not changed her food yet so the gain wouldn't be from the feed. She is gonna take her to the vet but she is just wondering. I told her you guys are the experts!!! LOL:D And I would ask. I am sure if she is preg it would only be one maybe two. Her tummy does feel a little tight. she is not even sure of a tie. The dogs were just left together....I told her that was not safe. |
Yo can usually see the milk ridges early. Nipples will be prominent also, vulva still swollen ( not as big as when in heat, but not as small as pre-heat). |
