Help please.... My pups are five weeks old... last week the runt vomited. The cause was unknown but she quit eating or even nursing from mom. I took her to the vet and is was decided she had aspirated a bit when she vomited. The pup was raspy and she gave me some antibiotics. When we got home the pup ate well and has since then, but she is started eating less and less. Now she is not eating any puppy food. I am watching her but may have to take her back to the vet. Any suggestions on what to give her that she might eat? Thank you |
Try Nutri-cal for her. How about some supplemental milk from store. Are they too young for plain white rice and boiled chicken? |
pup Goats milk sweetened with honey. Baby food meat mixed with goats milk..go slow changing her diet or adding to it. |
Supplemental milk and baby food is what we gave our 4 week old pom puppies after mom refused to nurse them. they ened up fine. Sammy,, a little more then fine but he was a BIG boy from the get go. |
Sorry forgot vet said some puppies become allergic to supplemental milk sometimes. I will try the goat milk, honey and baby food. Thank you all so much for your help. Diana |
Try the pudding receipe from Terri Shumsky's book. This is it. mix the following in a saucepan and cook to pudding consistency. 2/3 cup sugar 6 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 teas salt 4 cups milk (or one can evap milk plus equal parts water to make quart) 4 egg yolks 3 teasp vanilla. feed with syringe, on spoon, or let eat from bowl. full of protein and nourishment....have never had it cause diarrhea. |
Great advice as always! Great recipe! |
Depending on the drug that the vet prescribed for your little one, the antibiotic could be causing loss of appetite. It happens in humans, it happens in chinchillas, I don't know why it wouldn't happen in dogs too. I'd at least check with the vet about that and ask him/her how you should proceed. Good luck! |
