How many Breeders Vaccinate their own .. How many of you guys give your own vaccinations to your puppies and dogs? How do you the quality of the vacines? AND what kinds of vaccines are administered? My breeder that I got Suzi from did her own vaccines. Are they just as effective as the ones the Vet's use? I was told they are not. AND it depends on the type, and quality of the vaccines. Thanks. |
I know alot of breeders do their own vaccinations but my vet won't even acknowledge vaccinations that were done by a breeder. They said it's taking too much of a chance that the vaccinations could be expired or the breeder didn't do them right or in the case that I had with my Chihuahua that got parvo, the breeder didn't even do them at all! |

i do my own and they are exactly the same kind that all the vets in my area use. i have sold many puppies and not vet has refused to acknowledge my vaccinations but they do require their 16 week shot when they leave me. i only give three. My vaccinations are not expired and i order from the same places my vet does usually. |

I also give my own vaccinations. I get the same ones the vet would give. (same brand and everything) I would rather pay $8 for each then the crazy prices the vet charges. One place quoted me like $55 for the office visit each time I had to get a vaccination plus the cost of vaccination which was like $20 something. Crazy.I always make sure to keep the sticker from the vials just as proof. My breeder did the same, and my vet acknowledges them no problem. The only one you have to go to the vet for is the rabies shot. |

Oh the two of mine which were vaccinated by their breeder...a little label was placed on their records which gave all the information my vet needed. I never read any too closely, but I'd imagine it may have included an expiration date. |
The vaccines date is not the only concern the vets have...When you give your own vaccines they are most worried whether the vaccine was handled correctly...Was it properly refrigerated?...IF left out for any period of time the vaccine would not be good and if vaccinated with one of these vaccines the puppies would not have proper coverage...You have no way of knowing if the vaccines were properly handled by whomever you purchased your vaccines from...The only places to purchase vaccines from are directly from the drug company or your veterinarian themselves..JMHO IMO an extra fee for an office call is a small fee for my puppies to get a health exam... |

I was not keen on the idea of starting over with all of the shots. However, I now see that it was the best choice. Thank You. :thumbup: |

Suzi is fine, and did not have any complications. After her rabies' shot, she did sleep. I had to take the Vet's suggestions this time. AND thankfully Suzi had no reactions whatsoever. I rather have her fully protected then try and guess and wait to see if she gets sick later. :eek: |
