Docking tail and Dew Claws .... This is the first time we have ever had a puppy quite this tiny and I am a bit concerned about the appointment to dock the tail and have the dew claws done. Those of you who have had tiny puppies ( 2 oz ) do you bring them in to have this procedure done on the 3rd day, or do you wait until they are a bit larger? Tulsa's puppy seems to be doing very well, she is just very tiny, but I am concerned that if I bring her in she might not handle it as well as some of the other larger puppies ( 4-5 oz ) we have had in other litters. I would really appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you ..... |
Well, you can only wait so long to have it done...I would not consider it after 4-5 days max. Is it completely out of the question for you to dock the little one yourself? That would eliminate the need to take her out of the house if that is what worries you... |
I wait an extra day or 2 before docking the tails and removing the dewclaws on the real tiny ones. I had a friend recently lose her littlest one doing them too early. |
I would wait a few days also...I have waited once for 7 days on a very small puppy and she did fine...I think it is too hard on them...See how much she weighs in a couple of days...If she is up on weight and doing well then do it! |
I would definitely wait I had this same problem a couple of weeks ago and waited until the puppy weigh 4 onz this was almost at 10 days he is fine. |
