Breeder question??? I have a male and my friend has a female who is in heat. We have brought the dogs together and they got along really well. Now the problem is, my male just wants to lick her and follow her all over the place. She doesn't seem to mind but we know that the heat only lasts such a short time that we want to get him *in the mood* we have spoken to our vet and he said to manually manipulate the male and get her to put her bum near by. OK yeah right...lol  I was wondering if there are any other tips that I can get before she arrives this afternoon. We were meeting in the dog park, but there are too many distractions so we brought her here at my home. I thought that it would be best for Odie just because it is his turf and he won't be all over the nation sniffing and marking. I thought that made sense??? Anyways getting back to business, how do we get these two together and mate? Thanks for all suggestions:rolleyes: |
A male will know when a female is ripe for breeding. Give them time...good luck! |
I notice in another post that you listed Olie's birthday as 12/24/08 and that would make him 2 days short of 8 months, he is still a puppy. Most people do not attempt to breed their males until they are at least a year old. Your little boy is still growing and developing and is too young to be expected to breed. While some males do mature faster, the smaller males take a little more time. How old is your friend's female? It is advisable that the female be bred on her second heat or close to 18 months to two years of age. Olie might be more ready next time. |
