Ok I was talking to a person how may or may not have really been interested in my Yankee I am selling. My origional price was 1500 on a spay/neuter contract but to the right home I would consider 1000. not to receive the papers until I have proof from the vet that he had been fixed. He can not be bred because he only has one testical and would need to be fixed! My vet said that the procedure would cost me approx 350 +/- plus the vet visit. So she said that she would have no problem with the testical thing but would not be able to get him fixed right off. (Well around here if peaple say that and I know not everyone is the same but still. They say they will get them fixed but instead get the dog ckc reg and still use him. So I offered to go ahead and have him fixed but the price would be 1500 with a 500 deposit to take care of all of the vet bills. Was I wrong?? Mind you I have no problem keeping my baby. I was just selling him to replace him for my breeding program. If this is what I am going to run into I will just keep him. I know he is safe here of not being bred.

I would definately get him fixed even before finding a home for him. If it takes you a little longer to rehome him then so be it but at least you'll have peace of mind knowing that he's fixed and won't be bred. The right home will come for him whether its now or later and plus you will keep if it comes down to that. I would just get him fixed as soon as possible. Do you know where the second testi is at?

No, you absolutely are doing the right thing here! Maybe the person has good, honest intentions, but these days you just can't take the risk. I would DEFINATELY have him altered before he goes to his new home. What you have offered the lady is very reasonable and my thoughts would be that if she has an issue with it then possibly her intentions are not what you'd want in an owner for your little Yankee. (love the name!)

No we can not find the testical. That is why the procedure will cost so much. My vet said it could be more. But I dont want anything bad happen to my little yankee doodle he is a very special dog and I wouldnt know what to do if he got cancer from it. Thank you for your comments. Thats what I was thinking too.

How old is Yankee? A few months ago I had a 9 month old male neutered that only had one testicle and my vet charged around $130. While I agree that he should be neutered I think his age should be a factor in your decision. Here is an interesting article that speaks of the increased risks caused by having them neutered too young.

Sometimes you just have to go by your gut feeling and trust your puppy buyer. To me the utmost concern should be the welfare of the dog.

Yankee is 10.5 mos old and my vet said that it would not drop.
