Due Date Aug 24TH! Hello, Just Wondering if males can sense its about time to whelp! My little girl is a first time mommy! We are expecting one puppy I have read that one puppy can be a large puppy so we are worrried but we have a wonderful vet that is on standby should something go wrong! but she really is not big at all, but has lots of milk!I have been taking her temp in the AM and PM it has been up and down ! she is still eating no signs of nesting just wants to be lazy and stay beside me!But the strange thing is that my little male has been grooming her and nibbling on her neck this am! he just started this so iam wondering if this means she will go tonight or tomm. We are prepared I have everything ready including the ice-cream:animal36for momma! All we can do is wait this has been so scary since i have never had just one puppy Our vet said the puppy is really strong and healthy! We are just praying for mommy |
Did you go back to the vet to have an x-ray done to try to decide if the pup was too large? If you are closely observing her behavior, you will notice a change in the way she acts before she starts to whelp. She may become very attached or super reclusive. Make sure her whelping area is near and help keep her in a calm environment. Some suggest taking the temp several times a day to look for a drop in temp, which is often an indication of it being 'time'--mine actually never had any fluctuation in temp though, so that is not always a sure way to tell. Good luck! Keep us posted! |
We had an ex-ray! vet said everything will go fine by looking at the size of her pelvis and the size of the pupp but that was a week ago tomm.Dont pups grow the most in the last few days! I should probley take her temp more often but just kinda fearfull of doing it too much! temp was 99.3 two hrs ago she is resting well at this time! 0 signs of distress noticed! She ate 1/4 cup of cottage cheese today as normal! I will keep you posted! |
You aren't supposed to feed cottage cheese or supplement calcium until after she has whelped. I am sure you will both be just fine. You have touched base w/ the vet before hand so he/she is on board with the situation. Just be patient and try to stay calm. :) |
Yeah they are aware I have his number on speed dial! LOL:) He is a personal friend aswell and assured me he will not cut any corners if we run into trouble! |
Then it sounds like you've pretty much prepared yourself as best as you can. I think what you are dealing with now is nervousness :p...not that you'd be the first, or last. ;) |
