One time I read a post on eye color in pictures meaning something....Does anyone know???

Many people believe that if a Yorkies eyes appear green in a flash or when spotlighted in the dark that it will be or is blue and that if they are appear to be red then they will be black.
I do not believe this is true of color but it does usually follow coat texture. A silky dog tends to have "green" eyes and soft coated tend to have red. Or that has been my experience.

I find it very accurate with texture...but color is more tricky..most extremely light Yorks have a green eye flash..I have seen very black coated Yorks flash green, but that black coat was silk in texture...never seen a red eye flash be anything but soft or cottony.

You guys have no idea how long I have been searching.....I mean it has been 4 months of non-stop on-line searching!!!

sorry, i came across this thread and am a little lost :confused: what are you all talking about, lol.... i feel dumb but i dont understand, haha.... my Shelby's eyes flash green when i take a pic of her.... is that what u all are talking about?? if so, what exactly does that mean?? sorry for all the ?'s

Yes, the way the eyes appear when they reflect light--are they greenish or redish--is what people are referring to. It's commonly thought that the color "flash" is connected to the coat type of the dog. Greenish indicating a more silky texture, redish being a more cottoning coat.
I have found this to be true.
(I have also heard that Chocolate yorkies, regardless of coat texture, tend to have a red eye flash...but I'm unaware if that is actually correct.)

Maybe I am color blind...but it seems that when I take pictures of my furbabies their eyes are a yellowish green...does that fall into the green catergory?

I have found that those that flash yellow are usually not a nice silky coat but something between a silky and a cottony coat. Maybe that is what people consider a modified silk.

Thanks! lol, i get it now =] one thing, though.... Shelby's eyes flash green as u can c in her pics, however, her coat is cottony/soft.... groomer refers to it as baby fine/thin?!?! Could it be that her coat still has some some "filling out" to do? she is 10 mths old....

After talking to a few breeders here that came to see our puppies...Jolie' has a silky coat and it is not cottony...and many have commented on her beautiful coat. Maybe the eyes are green and I am seeing it right...I didn't get any pictures out to show them what I am talking about. :confused:

I would think that at only 10 months old, her coat still has quite a bit of filling out to do. That is a very "scruffy" age for these little ones. :)

To complicate matters more...there are shades of green and red...a canine eye dr. explained the reason for this, but it was so complex I could not begin to recall it all.
You may see a bright red glow...then into ambers/ yellowish reds..those run soft/cottony I find...but you can have yellowish greens to bright clear green, that is cool and silk..you can take them in a dark room and use a flashlight to see how they reflect...

:DYou ladies choose what coat they have lol...I'm pretty sure I know??? Could be corrected tho. :D

1st Galahad is 14 Months Old and Sage 4 Months Old (One of my Favorite Photos of my Dolls)
2nd Sage is 7 Months Old
3rd Sage is 11 Months Old (Love this pose of her, to me she looks so graceful)
4th Galahad is 2 years Old
