Can someone tell me exactly what a split heat is? I am attempting to breed my year and a half old yorkie and I have another thread going explaining that her and the stud are very interested and trying but can't seem to "find the mark" so to speak. I'm just wondering if maybe she is having some kind of split heat or what other things could be going on? She did bleed for about 7 days and then has had a very lite amount of discharge, from pink to amber colored. The stud owner says that she does not have as much discharge as her females have had and I'm wondering if that's why they are having trouble or is there some other explanation... Any ideas? |
Not all females bleed a lot during the heat cycle and some keep themselves very clean. Once the female is ready for breeding the bleeding turns light pink and sometimes stops all together. I found this definition on the internet about split heats: Quote:

my Maggie had a split heat that started at the end of October early November that lasted 7 days then stopped it started back up the 18th of January and she was bred but it was a false pregnancy. There was no discharge nor was she swollen in between the times. |
