Help New Litter Okay So Peyton Has Had Her Litter And We Were Looking At Her Today. Her Lower Teats Area Is Large And Fat.. One Side Of It Is Larger Then The Other She Does Have What Looks Like A Sore Spot On It But Could Have Been Sucked On By A Pup Trying To Feed..... Anyways The One Side Is Lumpy What Is It And What Do I Need To Do Is This Normal? Will The Lumpy Part Go Down?? |
Is it hard hot and lumpy? If so, it could be mastitus. |
what can i do? |
She needs to be seen by a vet.... |
When my females start getting hard tits I always start them on amoxicillin and it is okay within a day. You try to find a vet opened today and see if you can get some antibiotics. Another member posted this a while back, I have never tried it but it certainly could not hurt: Quote:

It could just be an engorged teat. Try expressing some milk from it. If it's a normal color, try putting a pup on it to get it to go down. If it's mastitis, the milk will have an off (pus-sy) color to it and the pup shouldn't suck on it and your mom will need to see a vet. This happened with one of my girls and I rushed her to the emergency vet at midnight only to be told it was an engorged teat. If the milk is a good color and a pup won't nurse it, you can try expressing some of the milk to relieve the pressure. |
I just went through this . Well Lola just went through this. Her 2 bottom teats were engorged. By the 4th or 5th day they looked like two swollen testicles. She was already on Antibiotics from her c-section. I sent you a PM telling you the whole story. My vet suggested expressing some of the milk from the swollen teats.Using cabbage leaf to reduce swelling. The instructions are in the PM I sent you. The cabbage Leaf did work ! I did some reading about it and this is what many woman put in their bras after they give birth to bring the swelling down. I thought Lola's teats were severe ,it was lumpy like cottage cheese and the veins/tiny vessels were dark purple looking. Within 2 days of the cabbage leaf plus squeezing some milk out.The swelling went down. The lumps took about a week to go down. A quick visit to the vet is the best suggestion just so you can get Amoxcillin at least. Good luck with your girl, Genie:aimeeyork:animal36:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Hi all we went to our ER vet just to make sure....Very nice vet on duty today and took care of us right away. Peyton is all well.....mom just likes to panic quick...lol She said just as some of you stated its just engorged and its because of her milk. She checked her milk and all was well. She said to put a warm compress on her and let her rest the pups will be fine with her and she has no sign of infection. IF her temp was to go up or it becomes pussy to bring her in. But all is normal and fine. Thanks to you all and your quick response. We are all good mom and pups are doing great!!! |
Yeah, glad to hear that all is well..... :animal36 |
