Heat Question Not with my yorkie, but my shih tzu. Her first (and last) heat was late last Sept/early October. She has not come into heat since. I had planned on breeding her with my male shih tzu, Joe, and when I called the vets office, they acted like there was no reason to see her and to just give it time. That just seems like a long time to go without coming into heat. Anyone have a female that has very spaced out heat cycles? |
I have heard that some small breed dogs only go into heat every 10 months or 1 year. |
All females are different. I is not that uncommon for some females to come in heat every 8 to 12 months. |
My Bonnie had her last heat in early October last year and nothing since so it's been almost 10 months. I have another girl, Pearl, that cycles about once every 9 months. I don't think it's anything to worry about; not all dogs cycle twice a year. |
Yes. Not uncommon at all--nothing to worry about. |
It's also possible that she had a "silent heat". |
What is a silent heat and how can you tell? |
