Will Bella weigh enough! At 17 weeks when I got Bella she was 3lbs. The breeder of 30 years told me she would about 5lbs. Bella has been to vet and I spent over 500.00 having her tested for everything. She has a perfect bite and has a beautiful coat. She weighs 4.9 at 8 months. My breeder said she should make it to 5lbs and my Vet said she was a perfect yorkie and if he owned her he would breed her. He said to wait unl she was 18 months old and she would be fine! Do you think she will make it and is it suitable to breed her with male that is 4 to 5 lbs? |
You have to take alot more into consideration than just the weights of the breeding pair when trying to determine if it is 'safe' for her to breed. What about her bone structure? Also, does she come from a line of prewhelpers? What are the sizes of the dogs in her bloodine? And the bloodline of the male? The genetics of the dogs in their family trees play a big role as well regarding size. Perhaps you could visit the breeder that you got her from and have her give you her opinion? She could help you examine the dam and give you hands on advice as far as evaluating her size/structure and could give you the info you need regarding her line's history.:) |
I have spoke with Bella's breeder and she has assured me Bella would be fine to Breed and my Vet also examined her and said she was fine. The Vet, an experience breeder and judge at dog shows would never pt my dog at risk. I here mainly to see responses and ask about male weight. I am new to breeding yorkies. I have always had German Shepherd. I wanted to know if you can breed a 5lb female with a 4.5lb or 5lb male. She is tall, long lean. he is short smaller stocky. I Know all about that there more to consider than weight and I have and those issues have been addressed. This little man has just gotten a little big than I had anticipated. |
There is no problem with breeding a female who is 4lbs or over. It is ok to breed a 4lb female with a male who is up to 5lbs. |
pup Why test a pup so young..wait until at least a year. Lots of stuff can show up in a year that is not there at 3 or 4 months..bites, structure, coat, color..on and on..why waste the money testing, only to have the Yorkie too small, too large, too light, too dark...too whatever..see my point? As to a stud..you can breed a Yorkie with no legs if you know how, short legged males breed just fine with help..ask your mentor to help you. Good luck |

I finally got Bella's picture up! So you can see She is one of those frail little girls. She's very healthy I don't cut corner with anything, I research I find everything I can. I brush all my yorkies wash their faces (eyes) daily to keep them clean, I just want whats best! I'm not affended, I know people breed for greed, I just need to know the truth, I'm afraid a breeder may just tell me what I want to hear!! Instead of what I need to hear! But I do trust my Vet!!!Bella is very healthy... I quess I just nervous. You know how us mommies are with our babies! |
