Listening to the Puppy's Heart Beats Hey all you experienced grandmas...I think I heard what I believe to be puppy heart beats with the stethoscope. I was able to hear this really fast sound (like horses galloping) in her rib cage area. She is approximately 6 weeks (bred 6/9, 6/10, and 6/11). Can any of you share your experiences on what it sounds like and where you were first able to hear these sounds? Thanks! Tammy :aimeeyork Annie Belle's Mommy |
yes that is what I heard. I tried counting the heartbeats in 15 seconds to multiply it times 4 . It was impossible to count it because its way too fast. I could count the mom's' heartbeat that was around 140 bpm. The puppies heartbeats are a fast thump, thump, thump! really really fast. You can almost always hear their heartbeats around the same area. After doing this many times ,I was able to determine there was 3 puppies. This was my first litter so I think it takes time and patience to find the heartbeats. I have a cheap stethoscope from Walgreens Pharmacy $10 |
heart beats And when you get real good you'll be able to tell them apart..the male and female heartbeats are different. |
I am pretty sure what I heard was puppy heart beats! It is so exciting. I can hear them on both sides in her ribcage area. She gets a bit nervous when I am listening though, so she won't let me listen too long. I think I felt one move tonight too...this is so exciting! I can't wait until the furbabies are here! :) |

I had two that were slower and a lower faint sound . There was the one on the left that was alone and that heartbeat was superfast and loud. I was always able to find that 1 heartbeat and tell it apart from the others. I bet, well almost positive gut feeling that the one that I heard loud and fast is the one surviving puppy that we have now! I wish I could have witnessed the natural whelp instead of a c-section. All I know is that the vet told me there were were two that came out weak and 1 dead and the last one was alert and screaming the whole time lol. I bet that was our Lucky boy :) Genie,Cookie,Lola,Angel & Lucky |
All the puppy heart beats are very distinct and loud...there seems to be three or four pups...just a guess. I am sure there are at least two. Annie Belle is getting big! She has grown so much in the past week. She is now 6 weeks...three more to go! I can't wait! We go for x-rays next week...I can't wait to find out how many we have. Did Lola get real protective of her belly? Annie Belle doesn't really like me listening to the heart beats. When I (gently) feel of her belly, she will nip me very gently as if to say...LEAVE MY BELLY ALONE PLEASE! I can't resist though...I am so excited. |
I listened to Lexie's 2 to 3 times a day, she didn't like it at first, then at the end of her pregnancy she was like, would you hurry and get this over with:D </IMG> |
Lola did not mind me rubbing her belly, touching it looking for puppies or using the stethoscope several times a day! lol This was our quality time. She was in my bed and She would roll over on her back and let me rub her belly...she LOVED it and often took a nap with all paws in the air with her huge belly.
