when does growth stop? I have an adorable little boy and he is 4#12oz. and he is 29 wks old./ 6 1/2 mo. When do you think he will reach his adult size. He hasn't put on any more weight for the last few weeks. Thanks for everything, Deb |
I think that growth with yorkies from what I've read can vary quite a bit with when they actually stop growing. Our breeder said to double their weight at 12 weeks and to be on the safe side then add a pound. At 6 1/2 months Mica was 3 pounds and she is about 3 pounds six ounces now. Kali was 3 pounds 2 ounces at 6 1/2 months and is now 4 pounds 4 ounces. Kali is just over 8 months and Mica just turned a year. Based on the growth chart Mica is right on track. She was one pound 3 ounces at 12 weeks. Double that would be 2 pounds 6 ounces and adding a pound would be 3 pounds six ounces. She was just weighed yesterday and she is exactly that and right on that growth scale. I have heard though of some yorkies that stop growing sooner and some that continue to grow beyond the growth chart. Guess it depends on genetics and hereditary factors from generations back. :) |
Different lines develop at different rates so it is really hard to predict. Since his growth appears to have really slowed down it is possible he will not grow a lot more but he may still just fill out some. Most Yorkies do not fully mature until they are around 2 years old and then as they get older they get the middle aged spread. I have a 10 month old male that has really put on some weight since being neutered and nothing has changed in his diet and exercise routine. Your boy could possible top out around 5 lbs but is all depends on how fat he gets. |
I was thinking that he may be 5 or 5 1/2 lbs. Though wouldn't mind him staying the size he is. He is soooo cute right now. I had him neutered a couple of weeks ago and he gets alot of exercise playing with his mother. So hopefully he will not get too big. Thanks Deb |
