Is she pregnant??? My girl should be 3 weeks pregnant so when should she began to show. What are the first signs. She actually seems thiner. Thanks. |
Here are a couple of great sites that may help you. http://www.debbiejensen.com/signs_of_pregnant.html http://www.schaferhund.com/pregnancy.htm http://www.petbitsforyou.com/ |
Thanks Breeze, what excellent sites. |
I have found in the past that my girls lose weight before they gain. A sure way to know if she is with pups go have a ultra-sound done. You can do this now, my vet prefers to do it this early, you can get a better count on the pups, becuz there is less chance of one hiding behind a sibling. I ultra-sound all my girls twice during pregnancy in the stage you are at- so we can get a baby estimate (all you will see at this stage is nodules) then on the 56 to 57th day to make sure what pups they have haven't grown two large. This is just my way of trying to keep my girls safe as possible. I rather be safe than sorry and every pregnancy is different. Good luck and keep us posted!!! :) |
Thanks Snow Yorkies, I did not even think of that & would not have thought they could do it so soon. I will check with my vet Monday Morning. |

Thanks for posting this, because I too wasn't sure if my Ginger was pregnant. She doesn't look like she's gaining at all. Is it too early for x-rays as well? My two sealed the deal July 9th at midnight. :p |
hi there, if your girl is pregnant you should be able to tell in a couple weeks...usually week 5 she begins the weight gain..xrays usually wont show skeleton until about 50 days. hope this helps |

goodluck! |
3 weeks is pretty early . Mine are showing signs of pregnancy 1 or 2 weeks before having their pups . |
You can also palpate her at 27-32 days into her pregnancy if your female is very cooperative you may even be able to count how many puppies there are, I have found this very reliable they will feel like little peanuts in there, the more relaxed she is the better it is to get a full count. |
Palpation should be done very carefully . |
I would never tell a new breeder to palpate, too much risk, why would you ever recommend this to a novice!!!!! |

Didnt know she was a novice SORRY.And I did not RECOMMEND it. I was only saying that it is 1 way of detecting pregnacy early on and I did not tell her to do that.I said that is how I know the first month if they are! |
many bitches will loose weight before they start to gain it. Their pregnancy is a lot like humans. Some will have morning sickness while others don't. Humans are pregnant 9 months, dogs 9 weeks...with that in mind, 1 week for a dog is like 1 month for a human. Not very many humans I know that start to show at 3 months (3 weeks for dogs) but will rather start to show in the 6th month (6 weeks for dogs). I wouldn't worry about her size right now. I'm not a big fan of ultrasounds. While it is cheaper to have one done in my town versus an x-ray, they only saw one pup in Gracie and she ended up having 4. |
Here it costs about 120 for ultrasound and about 70 for an x-ray funny how pricing is different every where. |

That is very cheap must be nice my vet is very good though sometimes he does not charge for a visit just the meds or whatever he needed to do, he also did not charge me for calling him in on a holiday just had to pay for the meds, country vets will do that though around here if you take good care of your animals, if you do not take good care of them you will be charged for everything makes them mad to see some of these animals come in in bad shape and the owners have put off bringing them in because of having to spend money on them. I always help my vet when I bring in any of my dogs |
I heard that you can give dogs and cats human pregnacy tests! Has anyone ever tried it? |
