Okay i have a question maybe someone can answer. I was wanting to know around what i could expect the puppies weight to be at full grown. Not that the size matters at all. I just want them to be healthy. But just wondering if anyone knows where they fall.

Peyton (mommy) weight before pregnancy was 10LBS
Poppy (daddy) weight before pregnancy of Peyton was 4.5LBS

Any idea??

I would expect that you'd have one pup more on the larger size and most taking after their dad. It really all depends on the parents' background tho. In a larger litter, you may see 2 that take after their mom's larger size. Birth weight won't tell you anything...you'll just have to watch them grow.

Thanks. Yeah i am told by ultrasound there are definitely three but there could be a fourth one they werent sure if the puppies moved during the ultrasound. And if there are any up higher or hiding they didn't see any. But more on the lines we will have three puppies for sure!

Don't be shocked if you have more. The bigger girls can have larger litters...5 to 7 pups isn't unusual. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :)

Yeah i know that they can i personally want her to have more because the vet that gave her ultrasound said that it is better if they have a large litter when they are her size as it insures the puppies to be small enough for delivery and if they have a smaller littler they could become to large to go natural. I want all to be healthy and a smooth safe delivery!

Also the stud she bred with had gotten another girl her size pregnant right before her and she ended up having seven. What are the chance she could have more if thats what he produced with another girl her size? Also when i listen for heart beats i have a hard time hearing them but i heard two of them. and my mother believes she heard the third one she said sounded slower than the other two. Any ideas? If she was carrying more then three would it be harder to hear the heart beats. She is at day 54 now!

The bitch determines the number of puppies by how many eggs are produced. Unless a dog's sperm quality is poor (usu. due to age, injury or disease) the dog has little to do with the number of puppies produced. He has everything to do with what gender they are though...

i think the standard is 4-7 lbs.. but the larger genes would follow the mom..
7 lbs is a good weight to breed mom ..

for breeding purposes.. some would say spay the 10 lb female and keep a female who is 6-7 lbs.
when trying to better the breed
the standards are used
the weight at 3 months will determine adult weight
it doubles .. 12 weeks 3lbs... one year 6 lbs..
less than 5 lbs for a female is too small to breed
show breeders are a good example to follow:)

I have really been thinking about how many of the smaller Yorkie mothers have such trouble and having to have C-section and all... I was thinking why the mothers couldn't be a little larger in the standard...but as I read some of the history today...I read where some Yorkies in the old days were almost 30 lbs then down from that and then to the 7 standard. sigh... my bentley is so pretty... still thinking about spaying her sigh

My first time breeding, I bred my 10 lb female to a 4 lb male stud. She had 4 beautiful puppies (2 girls & 2 boys) weighing 5oz & 6 oz at birth. I have kept in contact with the buyers of three of the pups.....at 6 months of age one of them weighed about 4 1/2 lbs, one was 6 lbs and the other 6.9 lbs. So I'd guess to add maybe another pound to that for their true adult weight???? Sounds like they will still be within in standard size or close to it. But I must agree that genetics would play a big part in how big or small any puppy would get. I have pics of those 6 month old pups in my album on my profile page if you're interested.

Having learned much since my first attempt at breeding I have since had that female spayed and purchased another smaller female for breeding. She is a week shy of turning 6 months old and weighs right around 5 lbs. I'm guessing she might gain another half pound or so and I think will be a great size for breeding when the time comes. I also purchased my own stud male; he is almost 1 yr old and weighs about 3 1/2 lbs. When the time comes to whelp Halle's first litter, I'm thinking I will be alot more nervous than I was with Lexie's litter. It will probably be a whole new experiance for me, as I expect it to be much different from when my larger female gave birth.
