Whelping Pudding Okay so i might be retarded and all...LOL... but i have a question(s).... I have heard a lot of people talking about whelping pudding... what is it, what is it used for, how much do you give, and when do you give it. Also what do i give to my girl when she is in labor... what is best to give her in between puppies to help her with the labor? All help is appreciated! |
Here's a recipe for whelping pudding. If you search 'whelping pudding', you'll get a lot more info. There's lots of threads here about it. I just give my girls some water during labor between pups and some Nutri-Drops after she's all done. They never seem to want much other than the water during delivery. |
Here is a post by someone else on making it! Quote:

I made that pudding this Tuesday when Lola came home and she ate it all . At first she refused it so I used a syringe. She soon started liking it soo much that I give her at least 4- oz a day if she wants it. So far her milk is coming in very well. I made some more of the pudding today and give it to her in the morning, then feed her 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of puppy food and then at night give her more pudding. It has so much protein and calcium ,very good for them.I didnt get to offer it to her during labor because she ended up having the c=-section. But Ive heard you can give it during labor. it helps keep their strength up |
I was thinking about making some but I seriously doubt my girl would eat it, so I grind her dog food in the plender and add cottage cheese. She loves that!!! |
I swear by this recipe and give it to anyone I know who is expecting pups;) ...Debra x x x |
Sorry....the recipe posted above is the one I copied and (obviously) forgot to paste......not one of my better days LOL |
