mia lost her puppies Is it normal for a mother to lose the puppies from Day 45 to Day 60 and have the vet tell you she reabsorbed them Has any one had that happen before If she lost the 4 puppies from that litter Would you try a new male or try one more time with the male She had 4 pups on ultrasound day 30 and then vet felt live pups at day 45 and then she lost them But she did not produce milk. The vet said she will not mourn the pups since no milk. She seems fine. I know like a week or two ago she had horrible diarrhea and vomited one time. I think that is when she lost them. |
I am sorry Mia lost her pups:( |
i'm soo sorry! :( I've heard of puppies being reabsorbed at around 50 days even but the whole litter? I dont know honestly. It may happen since you saw the ultrasound . Genie,Cookie,Lola,Angel & Baby |
Has she been tested for Brucellosis? |
So sorry you lost all the puppies. It's the first time I heard of a whole litter being reabsorbed.... but I guess it could happen if you didn't know the female was pregnant or just assumed she wasn't because she didn't produce any pups. Not everyone takes their females for ultrasounds.... so maybe it happens more often then one thinks... |
I am so sorry that happen. I'm sure she will be fine, but I just thought that was an awful lot to reabsorb! Do you think there may be a chance she still has some? |
Sorry you had problems and no puppies. I know how that feels we had a false pregancy. Guess its good she won't mourn them. As my Zoie is pacing with a small animal and that is so sad. I hope someone can give you some answers on this. |
I am so sorry for your loss! What a disappointment! Someone on a canine reproduction list I am on recently told of a dog (not a yorkie) who had ten puppies resorbed. They had x-rays showing them on day 50 then on day 60 or so they x-rayed again because she had suddenly slimmed down and the 2nd x-ray showed only a partial puppy. They were surprised that she could absorb so many, especially with being so far along with bones being developed and everything. So I guess it can happen. |
I am so sorry to hear this.. I had a litter of 4 7 weeks ago.. and lost one baby day 6, day7 and day 20.. and that was very hard to take.. I am not sure what to really suggest to you but would love to keep up with this thread to learn more.. anne |
new male or not does anyone have any idea if I should try a new male or not |
First I would have a thorough exam done on your female complete with a full blood panel and I would insist that the male be thoroughly tested as well including a full blood panel. Discuss the problem with your vet. If you don't get some good answers, look for a canine reproductive specialist. |
litter Are you are positive the vet knows how to read a sonogram and palpitate at 45days..? If you have the sonogram, I would have another vet check it out... Did she abort them and you saw the puppies? Or did they disappear? I would test her for brucellois and have a few smears done of the vaginial tract...try another stud, but for no reason other then you get so few chances to breed a bitch, cover all the bases...good luck |
vet yes I am very sure my vet knew what she was doing We found no puppies Except the horrible diarrhea and the vomit I am a lab tech in the medical field and I thought the diarrhea had some tissue but the vet said not to worry the male has been tested I have seen all of his work up i am going to have mia's teeth cleaned and i will have more work done on her thank you all for all the help also has anyone heard not to use heartguard on a yorkie i had a fellow yorkie mom tell me she could not use it on her yorkie but her yorkie also only had 30 percent of her liver functioning |
odd, but true.. Better luck next time..it is really is odd, isn't it? |
