Pregnant or not? Hi all! I am new to breeding and have researched all the information I can find on yorkies and have also talked to the sire's owner. I am wondering if anyone in YT can provide me information based on their personal experiences. Annie Belle was bred on June 7, 8, and 9. Her heat cycle started around May 30. Since breeding, her teats have gotten larger and darker. She is very calm and doesn't play much at all (she prefers to lay around a lot). She is demanding of affection and has gotten very picky about her food. She started throwing up last weekend a bright yellow fluid. From what I understand, these are normal signs of pregnancy. However, when I took her to the vet on Thursday (2nd) for her prenatal checkup, he said it was too soon to palpate puppies and said he couldn't feel anything (also the u/s equipment was not working). My questions are this: Is it possible that she is having a false pregnancy? She did have a false preg. with her first heat cycle, but there was no vomiting. Is there anyone who can describe in detail how to palpate the puppies and when I should be able to feel puppies? Thanks so much for your help! :aimeeyork |
1 Attachment(s) She sounds as if she might be. So she is about 4 weeks? If so ,I would wait another 2 weeks. One sure sign that most breeders go by is a clear/clear yellow discharge around 4-5 weeks. I noticed this on my dog at around 5 weeks. It looked like mucus .A dog with a false pregnancy does have this discharge. Ithink it's one of the only signs that sets a true and false pregnancy apart.I'm sure experienced breeders may have other sure signs but mainly ,you might have to wait a little longer. Sometimes certain vets are not so good with Palpatation. I waited until my dog was 51 days and they did an Xray . I recommend you wait until 55-57 days since the Xrays will be even more clear. This is my dog's Xray and you can see 2 puppies but it would have appeared much more clear if Iwould have waited another 5 days at least! What I did was measure her ribcage and waist area once a week. She went from 12.5 inches to 16.5 inches! However a false pregnancy might cause a weight gain also. The best would be an Xray or sonogram but a sonogram will only tell you she's pregnant. It's difficcult to get an accurate count of how many puppies with a sonogram. Cookie, Thanks so much for your reply. I have been following your thread about your baby that is due soon...please let us know when she delivers and how it goes. I am so excited for you! I have noticed that her rib cage has expanded and my husband stated that he thought she looked wider. I will measure today and see what happens. I will be on the look out for the discharge. Once again, thanks for your reply. |
Hi, I noticed the same signs with Chloe. She threw up bile about two weeks after tieing. One week after tieing, my fiance and I went to Vegas. When we came back (and didnt see her for a week), he noticed that she seemed wider and started to have a little waddle to her. Palpitation, as described to me by vets, is not an exact science. They say that the pups would feel like pearls on a string at somewhere around 26 days. |
