Question About Tieing I was wondering if dogs are more likely to accept another dog when they are fertile? If so wouldn't that mean that it is best to calculate from the first day or two that they tied? For example, Lily & Buddy tied several times on April 27,28,29,30,May 1,2. Is it best to say that Day 63 would be June 29th? I think Lily is holding out on me here. Maybe she is waiting to have these pups in the weeeee hours of the morning!!! That's ok, I don't have to work tomorrow.:) |
Usually I've heard is 63 days after the first tie but that is only an estimate. Have you started taking her Temperature already? If it drops by 2 degrees it is usually a sign that she should whelp within 12-24hrs. Have you noticed her mucus plug come out yet? Genie |
Gestation is 63 days long....Puppies are always born on the 63rd day from Ovulation...If you bred your bitch two days after Ovulation she would deliver 61 days from the tie...If you bred your bitch 2 days before Ovulation she would deliver 65 days from the tie... The key is knowing the day of Ovualation...Without Progesterone testing during a heat cycle you have no way of knowing when Ovulation took place to determine the due date... Taking temps, watching for signs of impending delivery and educating yourself before pregnancy, labor & delivery is the best tool you can have besides a great mentor to help you! |

i always use the java due date chart on ... Canine Pregnancy Calendar .. to get a general idea of when she is due.......by using the 1st date they tied...hehe... hope that helps |

Zoie was to be due on 28th and here we are still waiting. I think she is really getting close. We have been at 99.9 for 2 days now. |

At least you have a tie to calculate from. There never was a tie with either girl, but many attempts, beginning the 2nd week of May. I finally AI'd them both the third week of May, but sometimes you can have a pregnancy without a tie, so we have a wide window here for when they are due...I am guessing at the end of next week and/or the week after. They have both been oozing that sticky discharge for at least a week. So I am just watching closely. |
