Labor like symptoms, but only 52 days!!!! Chloe is only 52 days - or so I think from the only tie that was witnessed. She was X-rayed yesterday and is carrying 4 pups. In the past 2 hours, she has been panting nonstop (except when drinking water or being pet) and even started to "dig" in her bed. I took her temp and it is 99.9 - which is about normal for her. She is typically 99.3 - 99.5 in the morning and higher in the evenings. Earlier today she wanted to walk more than her usual. She also didnt eat all her chicken - which she usually eats fresh baked chicken in nearly one gobble. Should I be concerned? What should I do? I am going to keep monitoring her.......just nervous....... |
whelping All you can do is watch her carefully...check on her during the night..is there any possiblity she is a week ahead...? |

if there was witness to one tie...is it possible that ovulation was anywhere from 7-10 days before....im still learning so im asking.......but i know that conception in dogs is from ovulation date not tie date.....maybe she just tied late in the cycle |
I was thinking after I read your other post about seeing 4 pups in an xray that she was further along than you think.... I don't think the bones are calcified enough to see the pups at 52 days... 57 days on (the last week) is the best chance to actually "see" anything in an xray. Keep us posted on Chloe... and good luck!! :) |
Thanks everyone for your posts! I love the fact that I can type at this time of night and still get wonderful responses. By the time I went downstairs, she finished her chicken. She is really just panting now. She hasnt "dug" in almost 2 hours. She seems uncomfortable, but okay. Should I take her temp again soon? Thanks again - I wouldnt be able to do it without everyone's expert advice. |
It could be possible that she is further along than anticipated. I noticed that she was swollen on a Thursday and my dad saw that they tied the following Tuesday. On the X-ray, the puppies skulls, ribs, and spines were visible. |
if i understand right they can ovulate as much as a week before they swell....so she may actually be term already.....how is she doing now? |
do you have recent tummy pics? |
Wow, I knew that the ovulation date was the correct date - thats why I usually give July 8th as an estimate. I didnt realize, though, that they can swell a week after ovulating. Thats good to know, thank you! Right now, she is sleeping in her bed. I bought that bed in November. Tonight was the first time that I ever saw her spend more than 10 seconds in it! Ha, as I wrote that she got out of the bed to lay on the floor. She just seems uncomfortable. I will take her temp right before I go to bed. |
I have some pics from this past Tuesday (my estimated day 49), but I cant figure out how to resize them to fit. Today was the first day that I noticed her belly get a deeper looking split down the middle (if you know what I mean......). I will try to figure out how to resize......... |
she sounds like she is starting to nest....just set you an alarm clock for every 2 hours...and try to get some rest...to me it sounds like it could be within the next 48 hours....could be that she is as far along as 61 days...good luck and please update in the morning....im usually online around 8-10....and i have access to some breeders that may be able to help during the day with some of your questions...im learning all i can as i will probably have a litter late winter -early spring |
open your pics with what ever you edit your pics with...for example mine is hp /Image zone....and then click edit and resize...need to be below 600 x 450 pixels... |
3 Attachment(s) Not the greatest pics, but these are from Tuesday. Thanks for the pic adjusting advice! She seems to be drinking a lot of water - perhaps the heat.......? |
