Tails and dew claws a question... I just finished doing my tails and dew claws on my pups. I did the clamp and twist for the tails, and sniped of the dew claws and covered it with a liquid bandage. My question is they are ozing a little, not much, but it is ozzing. Is this ok, or did I do something wrong. I left the clamps on for about 7-8 minutes while we were doing the claws. And they are all whinning. I just wonder I thought this would be easier for them, of course they are usually at the vets. So is this ok, and do you have any suggestions?? |
I hope you were able to get the bleeding stopped. They don't have much blood volume, so blood loss really can be an issue. I have never heard of leaving the clamps on for so long. Usually the clamping (done before the cut) seals off the vessels so you can remove it soon after. When my vet did the tails this last time one puppy kept bleeding after I got her home. I took her back and he put silver nitrate on it. |
the sticks You can order them on line, they are for free bleeds humans but they work great for duke claws, I band the tails 24 hrs after birth, no mess no sreeming, the tails just fall off in a week, I wait on dukeclaws untill they are 3days old and use the sticks little bit is talking about, you get 100 at a time, they are good for 2yrs, and they are good to use on small cuts, toenails etc, had one of my babies that got his claw hooked on something and tore it loose used the nitrostick stopped the breeding in a sec, theyare great to keep around.:) |
Yes all the ozing stoped shortly after I posted. I kept a close eye on them, and waited several hours until I knew they were ok, to go to bed. There was not much blood loss, and I was to worried about much of any. So that is why I asked. This am everyone seems none the wiser that anything is really diffrent and are all doing well. |
