Nursing bitch is throwing up after eating. Help!
 

My puppies are just over two weeks and we have seriously had so many ups and downs with Mama..

Now she is throwing up after eating. She did it last night first, but now she is doing today too. She is acting fine, seems a little tired (but she is pretty lazy anyway:rolleyes:, and has no temp. She is still nursing and drinking plenty of water.

She is just throwing up everything I feed her. First her normal dog food, so I gave her some bone-less, skinless boiled chicken. She threw it up. :( The only thing she has not threw up is a small amount of raw ground beef my DH gave her.

My vet is on vacation til monday, but his assistant said it could be a whole list of things, but since no fever and only with food, that it was possibly just the food, and gave me the number of another vet an hour away...

Any ideas??

Hi, what is wrong with your baby? Nausea? Vomiting? Loss of appetite? Diarrhea? Diarrhea with blood is very serious. If your vet approves the med for your baby The Veterinary Drug Handbook says for acute diarrhea give Pepto 1ml per 5kg or 1 ml per 5X2.2=11lbs. SO if the baby weighs 5 lbs --1/2 ml; if under 5 lbs I would give 1/3 or .3 mls no more than 3 times a day.
But, always ask your vet what to give. The meds that the vet might need to prescribe might not be comaptible with the pepto.
Don't know if it helps you I hope your baby is all better without meds..

i copied this link for you.. also i use ginger snaps... small pieces... she will feel better tomorrow ... hopefully.. dont try to feed her much for 24 h..
push fluids... vanilla ice cream might help.. there might be a need for calcium

I would just give her a little nutrical or corn syrup and water and just encourage her to eat small meals. Is she under any stress right now? How are her breasts, are they normal or hard? You have to watch out for mastitis around this time. I hope she feels better soon.

Her breast feel normal... humm.. i hope this is not an early sign of mastits.

As long as her breast are normal and she has no fever then it is probably not mastitis. How many puppies is she feeding? You have to really watch for eclampsia also, especially if she is not eating well.

She is nursing 4 babies. She is actually eating fine. Just throwing it up... maybe she is eating too much at a time? She acts like she is starving. She just had her wormer, so I know its not that.

How often are you feeding her? She should be eating about 4 meals a day and she need dry puppy food available at all times. What are you feeding her?

Probably you are just feeding her too much try smaller meals.

I was letting her eat whenever, so I pulled her bowl and started feeding her small meals. It worked. She quite throwing up. I was just feeding her too much.

Thats good news I know how anxious we get when our girls are in trouble.
