Syringes
 
For the life of me I can't find the size I bought last time and I really liked them. Real short and nice and thin and small.

What size do you guys use? I like the finest syringe.

I have some small ones on hand that are 3 cc's. They're skinny and about 2 1/2 inches long.

I have a couple of both , I like the smaller ones also. I have couple 1 cc syringes they have smaller increments. I get them from some people I know who have diabetes. I also have a coupld of 3 cc syringes and 5 cc syringes.
If they are sucking fairly well I use the 3-5 cc that way they can kind a pull it out of the syringe, if i want to give it slowly and not very much to prevent aspiration and play it cautiously I use the 1 cc syringe.
Sometimes you might be able to get clean ones from your Dr. office, because if they buy syringes with needles on them but have to change out the needle, say they don't have single needles so they pull it off another syringe they don't want to use, then they have these laying around. They are clean but not sterile anymore so they can't use them to give patients injections.
It could save you some money instood of having to go out and buy box.

Oops, I'm sorry..I meant the actual needle. I do my own vaccines and ran out and now I can remember the needle size. But thanks so much for responding!!!! :)

Yes I believe the 25 gauge is the smallest size of needles. I was thinking unit size of syringe. I have bought allergy type syringes were I have gotten the units of the syringe as small as 1/2 cc , The gauge may have been 25, but the length is something different also of the needle, I think they come in 5/8'' 1/2'', and 1 inch lengths. If I am going into a very small muscle and or subcutaneous I use the 5/8''. I haven't looked into insulin syringes for gauge and length. I think they are smiliar.
Do you have to get a prescription for syringes from your VET?

I've had the 1 inch and I think they are too long. I'm going to have to find an old order form...its been so long since I ordered and I buy alot at a time and I don't have many litters so they last forever.

I order mine online....not from my vet.

Here in MI I do not have to have a prescription. I just go to the pharmacy and ask for the shortest and thinnest needle. I hope this helps.

Thanks! I found the size I had before. Its a 25 gage (which is a puppy size) and 5/8 long.

I too could not remember what size I last purchased. I thought the last ones I had purchased were 23 guage, so that is what I ordered.

YIKES!!! They look much too big. I will just keep the syringe's for wormings and feedings and toss the needles. I will order me some 25 guage puppy needles.

Breny, there is 100 unit and 50 unit syringes for diabetics and they have either 25 gauge needles or 27 gauge. Those are smallest. I use the 25 gauge... 27's are soooo tiny.

The most common size is 22 gauge, that what the vets recommend. The 25 gauge needles are really slow to draw up and inject and the 22 guage does the job much faster. The price of 22 guage at the vets office is $8.50 per 100. I think the 25 gauge was $9 but are harder to find.
