Need HELP. Placenta wont come out!
 
My Baby Daisy had her puppies tonight/this am. I'm also part of the "June Puppies" thread.

Anyways, I need help! She delivered all 3 puppies like clock work, until the 3rd puppy came out. She came, but the placenta is still in there! I tied & cut the cord, then tried to pull the placenta out of Mom, but it went back up! I don't have the oxytocin, my vet would not give it to me.

I'm going to call the vet as soon as they open, but would like to get some advise and help if anyone knows what to do.

She is doing great otherwise, no fever and is a very proud Mama! :bravo:

Massage her belly and look for any green strings hanging out..then gently pull...you can take her in for a check/shot this morning..and it may have delivered when you weren't looking..good luck

I keep noticing the green stains on her bed, and when I go to wipe her. I keep looking for the strings, but can't find any. I message her belly and can still feel it it there, but it seems to be too far up.

Is this dangerous? I've been up ALL night with her. I just want to make sure she is ok before going to sleep. That and I have to take my kids to school at 9:30, then to the vet, so going to bed now seems pointless.

You could be feeling the uterus. It's often mistaken for another puppy. They can get an infection with placenta retained.

have you been to the vet yet? A retained Placenta is very dangerous. Please update us.

I am so sorry to hear it did not come out. I thought for sure with a little tugging it would have delivered. Keep us posted on how it goes. Glad babies are doing well.

Unless you have been watching her constantly, it is possible that she passed the placenta later and ate it. Females continue to have have contractions for days after the puppies are born. She will be just fine until you get her to the vets this morning to get a clean out shot. For the next week you will just need to monitor her temperature twice a day to be sure she does not start getting a uterus infection.

Perfect advice.

She should be fine.

As already mentioned...she most likely passed in the night and ate it. However, a clean out shot at your vet's in the morning will end all worry and wondering.

Congrats on the new pups!
