Finding a pedigree
 
I am looking at this yorkie and the lady cant tell me a pedigree. She has given me the full name of the dog and the registration number of the dog. How can I find out the pedigree on this dog?

If he's AKC registered you can go to American Kennel Club - akc.org and buy a research pedigree for him using his registration # and you will need the date his registration was issued, it's on the certificate just under the AKC seal.

Research pedigrees are $12 and you can save them to your computer in HTML format. :cool:

One thing to consider is that if the lady can't tell you anything about his pedigree.....there's probably not much to tell.

I knew something didnt seem right when she told me that. I breed Chinese Cresteds and I KNOW AAAALLLLLL my dogs lines. I couldnt tell you the exact order, but I know the main names of dogs. I dont want to pin point a name, but I did some research and I think that this dog is coming from a puppymill. I dont know for sure though. That is the only impression I am getting. I think I will stay away.
I worry about pedigrees and the lines of the dog. I feel that helps to determine if the dog could have problems down the road. That is why I have been so picky. Oh well and the hunt continues.....lol :p

Keep looking until you find a breeder who knows everything about her dogs and willingly shares the information.

You are right. That is what frustrates me here in Ky and a few other rural places. I call about dogs and ask what the pedigree is. Standard answer, 'what's that"?. My next question is well can you tell me what the bloodline is? Standard answer, "what's that". At that point I say thanks and hang up:)
