I almost lost a puppy today! You all know about the tragedy we experienced Sunday evening when we lost Coco. Well this morning my daughter found one of Diva's babies (the smallest one) lifeless laying on its back with milk running out of it's mouth. Diva had alerted her by barking a weird high pitched bark. I grabbed the puppy and realized it was not breathing at all. I didn't know if it had chocked, was hypoglycemic, or if she had layed on it. All I knew is that I was not going to lose another yorkie!! I did CPR, suctioned like crazy and rubbed caro syrup on the roof of it's mouth. After what seemed like forever (really only 5 minutes maybe) he started trying to gasp for air again. I kept working on him and had my daughter drive us to the vet. By the time we got there, he was breathing and squirming around. The vet looked him over and said his lungs were clear and his heart was now beating good. He did administer a steriod shot and a vitamin shot just to give him a little boost. He could not find anything wrong with him and told me that whatever had happened I had done the right thing to bring him back. Now he is doing good. He is nursing well with a strong suck and is pink and looks like nothing ever happened. I am now on 24 hour monitoring with those 2 little stinkers. All I can say is that this morning was close call that i never want to deal with again. I think my heart has had all it can take. |
Oh boy that sounds like a big day you had and I would have been very nervous. It sounds as if you did all the right thing and that was before you got to the vet. Lucky you knew what to do and pulled that little one out of danger. Smile today was your lucky day and you might miss some sleep but sounds like they are both under good care. |
I am so happy this story had a happy ending. I bet you were scared to death. You are very lucky your daughter found the puppy when she did. I pray the puppy will continue to do well. |

Oh my goodness! You've really been through it lately. I hope it's smooth sailing from here on out. |
I sure feel for you and your terror@ I was bottle feeding a litter of puppies once that their mom just did not care for them, every day she would have smothered another one or trampled them so We took the last 2 at about 2 weeks old.I remember we had to go out of town so I bundled them up and carried them around in one of those soft insulated lunchbags and even used a insulated camera bag,I was feeding, driving feeding and so on. By the time I got to our room I was dead beat, I layed down on the bed on my side and was feeding one while the other was rooting further under my armpit. WHen it came time to feed him he was limp lifeless and not breathing.AGGGGGG. You know I never worked harder for a puppy in my life as I felt totally responsible. I worked on him a good 1/2 hour and he finally came out of it after small breathes and slight chest compressions,He came back and wanted his meal and grrew up to be a great boy,...SCARY |
pup And people ask me why Yorkies are so expensive!!!! |
wow, how scary, you should pat yourself on the back, you did an awesome job, congrats. Keep us posted how the little one is doing. |
Amen to the "Ask me again why yorkies are expensive." Not only do they come with an enormous monetary costs but they cost you big time emotionally as well. As of now both boys are great. One is just growing way faster than the other one. The one that I almost lost is my little bit. He seems ok now, is sucking great and growing but I swear he is in someone's line of vision 24/7 right now. I still don't know what happened. I was sitting next to Diva making sure that he was nursing ok, since he is so small. I got up to go to the bathroom and was only gone a few minutes. Shelby heard Diva bark a weird bark and went to see and just saw him on his back with milk running out of his mouth, lifeless. The other puppy was still trying to suck even though Diva was sitting up barking that crazy high pitched bark. I thank God that I was able to revive him. After losing Coco I was hell bent and determined not to lose another baby. I'm getting my internet fixed at home. We have problems with our actual phone lines and they will be out Tuesday to repair them. As soon as I can I'm going to post some pictures of my 2 boys. |

Pat I was just thinking the same thing as I sit here reading these and after losing three boys out of a litter of three..and that is my favorite saying to people who do not know what can go wrong and what our costs are adding up to.not always a money value neither.. Glad all worked out and I am thrilled to hear you were able to save that baby.. I tried but did not work this time for me.. anne |
