Who has used a Stethoscope to hear puppies heartbeats/? I'm just wondering who here has used a Stethoscope to see if they hear puppies heartbeats at around 3-4 weeks of pregnancy? Some people tell me it doesnt work because you cant hear anything and some swear by it. IF anyone has used the stethoscope and was successful, what area is the best to hear the heartbeats better? I am just asking questions ... Genie |
i used one but it was really close to her whelping day.. so i think the heart beats were a little stronger and it was easier to find the pups |
I am not sure if our Lola is pregnant. But the dogs did tie about 10-13 days of her heat. She does have symptoms but it could also be a ghost pregnancy. I have made an appt for the xray but that is in the 45th day or so. I know I can take her to get a palpitation done now but that will only confirm if she is pregnant but will not tell me how many puppies. So the vet told me to wait until the 6th week or so. They do not carry the blood pregnancy test and honestly I called several vet offices and most have no idea that a blood test exists! The reason I ask is because I can clearly hear a faint constant beat right in the high abdomen area just under her ribs. Just to make sure I took my male and tested the stethoscope in is abdomen to make sure I wasnt hearing their own heartbeat in the abdomen area but did not hear anything at all for all the minutes that I searched. I am taking very ,very good care of her as she has been really lazy recently ,sleeping almost all day,she went through some vomit days this past week also. Genie |
The puppy's heartbeats will be much faster than the mother and more faint. You will just have to move it around to find the heartbeats of each puppy. |
I use one but not that early on. Either my ears aren't that good or my patience isn't isn't good enough to search for them that early lol |
I hope some one knows about this and lets us all know. Its very interesting. My Zoie was studded and hoping she is pg. Doesn't seem she is gaining much weight. |
I use one but generally don't hear a beat until around 6-7 weeks. |
I normally hear the heart beats around 7 weeks... |
i doubt that you are hearing heartbeats at three weeks. it usually takes me much longer and the puppies are very very fast. |
I use one and can hear them at 6 to 7 weeks usually. Their heartbeats are faster and very faint and difficult to locate sometimes. |
How do heart beat sounds?? |
Can you use a Doppler to hear them?? I much prefer my Doppler to my stethoscope for pregnant mommies, I wonder if it would work on pregnant dogs?? |
Cozy's X-rays where wrong both times. The first litter the X-ray said 3 but I heard 5 with my stethoscope- 3 good sized males and 2 petite females. The 2nd litter said 4 but I heard 4 very strong heart beats and 1 weak one- Sure enough I got 4 heifers and 1 very tiny boy. |
i could not hear heart beats till halfway through week 5 and that was only by luck in a very quiet room lol before tilly's first scan i started doing daily photos. and in day 11 after the tie her belly got a bit bloated and then smaller. on the day of the scan i was convinced she was not expecting....the vet said she was...the day after the scan her belly started getting bigger etc.. when i listen i am reminded of a small moped in idle mode |
I use a fetal doppler for heart tones. I can normally hear by about 38-40 days. They can be purchased on ebay, for around 50.00. I LOVE mine! I highly recommend the doppler over the stethoscope. I do have a stethoscope too, but for listening to lungs etc after puppies are born. |
