I need advice on selling my puppies Hi everyone. I am not sure if I can even ask this but here goes.. Kallies pups are 2.5 wks old and I have started to advertise them for sell.. I have some questions.. If I were to sell them to someone on yt that has a good rep, then I would feel comfortable about full registration.. If I advertise anywhere else, I am only selling with limited registration.. I plan on letting them go at 12 wks with ALL of their shots and health guarantee and all other tests needed.. They will have a great puppy package and are AKC registered... There is no champion in them and they are pet quality.. What is a fair price range? What is the best way to advertise? |
Look in your local paper and see what comparable puppies are going for. You can also advertise on Kijiji locally and it is free. |

I'm not trying to offend you here by the way I'm wording (And I'm not good as others on how I word things) this but I feel you need to try to understand this all before you make a full choice on how you adopt your Yorkie Babies out to anyone. Of course this is my OPO and that is it not what everyone else would do. But me myself as a Breeder of AKC Yorkies trying to improve the Yorkie Breed and improve her line of Yorkies by trying to breed toward the AKC Standards. And I'm not saying I'm any better then any other Breeder here but I have learned these Valuable LESSONS here on YT. I'm having trouble understanding why you would even allow anyone let alone someone from YT have Full Breeding Rights on Pet Quality Yorkies?? AKC Registration or no AKC Registration. If they are Pet Quality Yorkie Puppies ONLY then you should adopt all of them out as just that Pet Quality Puppies with NO Breeding Rights on Spay/Neuter Contracts ONLY to anyone. As this is what needs to be done for AKC Yorkies as allowing Pet Quality Yorkies to be adopted for AKC Breeding rights will not help the people who adopt your Yorkie puppies have AKC Standard Puppies or Adults when grown. I adopted EVERY puppy we had out on STRICT Spay/Neuter Contracts meaning NO Breeding Rights as all of ours was Pet Quality Yorkie Puppies...I didn't want anyone not breeding away from the AKC Standards and I had my Tiffanie spayed and am starting all over again in my Breeding Program to get toward the AKC Standards. I hope this all makes sense to you and you can try to understand what I'm saying. :) Lee |
Good luck on finding them great homes! I can't give you suggestions on how much to charge, but I would be careful where you advertise them as you might attract sketchy people in some places...like kijiji. Just be really picky who they go to...And good luck! |
I am definately going to be picky about where they are going.. This is going to be hard!! I checked my paper and the ones here are CKC with full reg for about $400 and majority of them are puppy mills for sure.. My dogs are healthy and vet checked and have a 1 yr guarantee that others do not offer..Even after that I am still not sure how to find the perfect homes.. |

Yes you are very right and this is my Tiffanie and this is the ONE I had Spaded due to her being OVER WEIGHT at 12.5 lbs and her weight being not of the AKC Standards of UNDER 7 lbs and throwing out a over weight puppy in each whelping that was not of the AKC Standards of UNDER 7 lbs and even tho she had a Beautiful Silk Coat, never had a problem one whelping her 10 total puppies and all 10 puppies are very heathy I still learned to stop and start over again to TRY to breed toward the AKC Standards. And yes I guess you could say she was Pet Quality. I am just trying to help you to understand the whys of having your puppies spayed or neutered due to them all being Pet Quality Yorkie Puppies. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way. And I don't mind you saying my Tiffanies weight as it is a good example of one of the many whys we should have Pet Quality AKC Yorkie Puppies on Strict Spay/Neuter Contracts. This is all my OPO. :) Lee |
If you let them go at 12 weeks, they won't have had all their shots as you shouldn't start them with vaccinations before 8 weeks. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
I would wait to advertise them till they are much older. Reason being is that anything can still happen to them and here you might have a deposit and then one dies - how would that person feel. So we just wait. Also - you never give full breeding rights on pet qulaity yorkies. No matter what. Check your local paper to see price ranges - if no champions and not to standard - I would sell on the low end. JMO Best of luck - you will get them sold when ready. T. |
First, I would not even be advertising them for deposits at this age. i never take deposits until six or seven weeks. Next, from my own experience, you have to be very careful who you sell to on YT. Not everyone here is nice and not everyone here is honest about buying OR selling dogs. In spite of how careful I am, some say getting my puppies is like pulling teeth, I have been scammed and lied to by two or three people here on Yt. As far as price, you do have to go by what they are selling for in your region. Makes no difference if what you are seeing at 400 in the paper iss from a puppymill. They are starting as low as 375. in the paper here in Ky. Makes no difference if your puppies are vet checked and yada, yada, People don't have the money to afford luxury items right now. All they are looking at is saving a buck. Champion sired litters here are selling no better than pet puppies. |
Well my vet told me that they start shots at 6 wks and they get them at 9 and 12 wks and they are done.. Is this not true... With the exception of rabies at 6 months, they will not need anymore shots until 1 yr.. Just to clear up any confusion for me, can someone tell me what you as a breeder look for in a dam or a sire to consider them of good breeding standard? |

Thank you for your help.. I did not realize any of this so it helps me tremendously..I was under the impression that it was better to start advertising so I kind of felt the pressure to have to do it but now I know I can relax and enjoy them and worry about it in about 4 wks...Thanks again! |

I never vaccinate before 8 weeks old. There is no reason to, as they get what they need from mom. I also wait until they are over 2 lbs as well. I normally start the vaccines between 8 weeks to 9 weeks. And never LEPTO. |

In my opinion, puppies should not be sold until they have had their first vaccination (usually 8-10 weeks old) ...Have been vet checked...Have had blood work to determine health...We want to make sure that we are placing a puppy that to the best of our ability is healthy, happy and well adjusted! An older puppy is starting to develop it's own personality and it is much easier for new prospective parents to interact with the litter and decide which puppy will make the perfect new family addition!...We have also found holding onto a puppy for 12-16 weeks old assures that the puppy makes a smooth transition to it's new home...Is piddlepad trained...Eating well...This makes for less problems for the new owners and a puppy that will be able to stay in it's happy home! Also, IMO, you can not determine the quality of a yorkie puppy for breeding before it is 6 months of age...Any puppies sold before this age should be sold with a spay/neuter contract...There are already too many poor representations of the breed to add more to the yorkie population... Good luck with placing your new babies! |

I now spay and neuter all my pups going to pet homes, before they go. Which mean mine are much older when they leave - but still puppies. But my main goal is for a show prospect for myself - reason to keep them longer. T. |
