Please help with any input/advice...... My pups are now about 36 hours old. The smallest is doing better, but he doesn't crawl around on his tummy...............he's always on his side and can't get to where is needs to go. I prop him on his belly and he scoots a little bit then falls over to his side and can only go in the direction he's facing. He doesn't turn himself back over on his belly. I am VERY concerned about him!!!!! Anyone with any advice or if you've seen this before......please help!!!!!! |
Is the puppy warm enough? They get very lethargic if they get cold. The temperature should be at least 80 to 85 where the puppies are. Is he eating ok? |

Hi again Sunnie.......he's eating as long as I put him on the teat. Every couple of hours, I help him latch on. He's definitely eating, he looks like a tadpole when he's done :) I had the heating pad on underneath the bedding, but the mom got soooooo hot, she was panting and just looked miserable!!!! I'll try the heating pad again and see if it helps. Thank you!! |
Be sure to put the heating pad just on one side of the whelping box so if the pups or momma get to hot they can get off the heating pad. How does the smallest look compared to his litter mates? Does his head appear normal in size? I am just asking because sometimes puppies with hydrocephalus fall over easily. I pray your baby will be okay. |
Also, If you have them in an expen, or in a crate, place a sheet around it or cover it to hold in some warmth. |
