Breeding Info We Have A 3 Month Old Female And Would Like A Little Information About When To Breed Her The First Time She Comes Into Heat Or Wait Until The Second Time. We Really Love Our Baby And Want To Do This The Right Way Just Want Whats Best For Our Baby. |
You definitely do not want to breed on the first heat cycle. Yorkies are normally bred no earlier than their second heat or 18 months of age. I suggest reading this article...it is long but it's got great information for anyone interested in breeding their pet http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-question.html |
Do you have pictures of her ? |
:welcome4: Welcome to Yorkietalk! I felt the same way when I got Joey, I just thought he was so cute, but after I looked into the matter more, I realized it wasn't such a good idea. Your pet's personality will change quite a bit and they won't be your baby anymore. Not only that, yorkies are harder to breed than larger dogs and mothers often need cesarean sections, an expensive and dangerous procedure. Yorkies have been so over bred, and many are carriers for serious hereditary disorders that don't show up in the parents, but show up in the puppies, and this is a heartbreaking ordeal. So it's important to have your dog and it's mate tested for certain hereditary diseases before you decide to mate. After you do all the research, I think you will find like many of us, that yorkies are great pets, but you should probably leave the breeding to the professionals. |
I think if you are truly interested in breeding, take the next year or so to fully research the yorkie breed, whelping and such. I would highly recommend finding someone local to maybe be able to "intern" on the whole breeding & whelping process. You will find that everyone has their own way & strong opinions of doing things but hands on experience beats all. There are many experienced breeders here who can and maybe do do it with their eyes closed. Listen to these people's advice, there will be different opinions but if you can soak it all up and it will help you find your middle ground or your comfortable spot. Like anything else, education is key! The breeder's of Yorkies are truly the most passionate type of breeders there are! Course...its kind of hard not to be passionate about yorkies when the little monsters take your heart hostage. |
