Picky Eater??? or something wrong... Hi All, It has been a while since I posted a real question so here it goes. My Bridget is pregnant, due june 21. She finally started to show about a week ago and I thought all was going well, but the last few days her appietite is off. She is putting her nose up at the food, and only wants essentially table scraps, ( baked turkey and chicken) I feed her the puppy plate by merrick, as it has a good number of calories for her condition. This is new, as she has not done this in her earlier pregnancy, nor did my other yorkie. SHould I worry, or is she just picky and spoiled. I just do not want anything hurting her or those babies. She seems ok otherwise, just very picky. I will mention as well she hides with her food now to, but right now we have no other dogs:confused: or cats running around. Is this something I should worry about? |
I personally have not had any problems with my pregnant females being picky eaters. I have read on here that some other YT'er were having problems with their pregnant females not wanting to eat that much. The most important thing is to make sure she eats something. I feel that a good quality dry puppy food is best mixed with some canned food. Will she eat canned food? My Yorkied like the canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice Puppy food and the canned chopped chicken. Boiled eggs are also good for them. I think as they get further along in their pregnancy they don't have as much room in their stomach so they probably just need to eat smaller meals more frequently. How much does your momma weigh. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
pre pregnancy she was about 6.5lbs. She was eating a combo of the grannies pot pie dry food, mixed with the puppy plate, which is canned. No luck, only with eat tiny bits. Just frustrating as I want to be sure she gets enough to eat. Guess she just wants to be spoiled rotten. |
I've seen my girls get picky at this stage too. The last few weeks are when the pups do most of their growing so things are starting to shift around and the increased size of the pups can be putting pressure on her. With my girls, the pickiness doesn't last. At least Bridget is eating something and the turkey and chicken are good protein sources. If you keep trying to get her to eat her regular food, she'll probably start eating it again. At this point, she could be picky one day and ravenous the next. Congratulations and good luck with your upcoming litter!! :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
