Where can I purchase the things I am going to need for the big day?

I am wondering the same thing. I checked in PetSmart but found 0 items.When I asked a salesperson if they had any books on Whelping , she was totally clueless! Asking me "helping?" No I said Whelping lol

I have found a few sites that sell a whelping kit some have deluxe whelping kit and some have a basic whelping kit.Range from $45-$90

I would like to buy these in a retail store near me but have no idea where to look!

okay, ladies. First off you will find that a lot of breeders buy "stuff' they don't even use. If you can buy an x-pen. This is where you will let your mama have her babies and have room when they get big enough to toddle around and mama can't get away from them. next, go to Walmart and purchase one of those under bed storage Rubbermaid containers. this will be your whelping box. i set mine in the corner of the x-pen. i put mama in the x-pen about a week before babies are due. she will get in the plastic box when she is ready. Put some old towels in the plastic box. I use Pish Pads and these are great for keeping mama nad newborns dry but mine have worn out so this time I will use washable peepads. Now, if you choose to use it, while you are walmart, get a bottle of iodine for the cords and also some dental floss to tie the cords off. i use neither but have it on hand. Also at walmart buy a pair of childs scisssors to cut the cors with. Now, go to a medical supply store or a nurse uniform stoe and buy you a pair of relatively small hemostats. Actually buy two pair. you might need them. oh, back to walmart, go to the baby dept and buy some unscented baby wipes and one of those little baby size blue nasal suction bulbs, You might want to pick up a cheap stehescope at the medical supply placee but you don't really need it. Now go to Office Supply and buy a small digital postage scale that weighs in lbs, oz and grams to weigh your babies when they are born. have plenty of old washclothes and towels available also. i keep all mine in one place. if I think of anything else, I will come back. Walmart, office supply and medical supply. Got it!!!:) Or you can go for the really fancy stuff and order online and pay huge shipping charges. Discount Pet Supplies, Pet Supply, Online Pet Supplies is a good place to buy whelping supplies. if you order, make sure you get some NutriDrops for puppies.

Ok, I went to Walmart yesterday with my sister and I purchased most of what you and Debbie Jensen suggested. But I am still missing a few things. I couldn't find a scale, stethescope and hemostats. My friend is a nurse and she might be able to send me the last 2 but does anyone know where I can purchase an inexpensive scale?

did you look in the kitchen department at Walmart? You can use a digital food scale with a bowl. I bought mine at OFFICE DEPOT. Mine is a postal scale that weighs up to five pounds. it is flat on top. i paid about thirty dollars for it. I am almost sure you will have to go to a medical supply place to get the stetescope and hemostats. Also, I am a retired R.N. and I know they sell these things at uniform shops if you have one of those.

Oh no, I didnt think about looking in the kitchen section. I may have to go there tomorrow and I will look. I know of one "nurse" store and tomorrow after work my sister will be checking there.

Yeah I got my scale at Walmart,kitchen department.It weighs in ounces and goes up to 2 lbs. It has a large enough bowl so you can easily fit a puppy. It was cheap too,like $7. You can also get the heating pad at Walmart Pharmacy dept also.I know someone here mentioned that they need a heating pad that stays on all the time. I would get 2 pads and turn them on several minutes apart,that way there is continuous warmth.The heating pads were cheap too. I already had these things when I got my yorkie and he was too small.Don't know 100% if our Lola is pregnant so will deffinately save that site in case I dont find a medical supply place near by. Only difficultitem to find is the 2 hemostats ..

So my friend (and I use the term loosely :)) didn't send me the hemostats. I went and bought a cheap stethoscope but what can I do about the hemostats? Is there anything else I can use to clamp the cord?

you can tie them off with dental floss. Place it about 1-1/2 inches from the babie and cut on the side next to the mother.
