Can they get 'period pain' like we do? I just wondered if our female Yorkies ever get pain in their tummy when they are bleeding. My Tootsy seemed to be in a lot of discomfort when she was in heat and bleeding. She seemed to feel it more at night. I wondered if they get tummy cramps or headaches? It really upset me to think she may be suffering. I wanted to give her half a baby asprin, but I was concerned that it may upset her tummy, as she gets colitis. She is due to go in heat very shortly and is starting to feel very tired and grumpy. I just wish I could make her more comfortable. She gives a little growl at her tummy, when it is sore. Any advice? Wow, I always thought humans were the only ones that suffered from this, or should I say women. I also thought animals had no problems with deliveries, but I now know this isn't true with domesticated animals. Maybe a breeder will know. Just posting to wish you both well. Sorry I posted, I thought I was in the Off-topics. :D |
Not sure about pain, but they can get real snappy and bitchy. Are you planning to breed her? Just a thought, but if she gets colitis, maybe you should have her spayed. then she won't be bothered with heat cycles. |
Thanks for the replies. No, we have decided not to breed her now. She gets colitis and I am concerned that it may be passed on to her pups. Also, she has had a difficult life before we got her and, as a result, she is very highly strung and nervous. I don't know for sure, but perhaps this would get passed on to her pups. We are trying to find a vet who does laser surgery to do her spay. I am also having to save up for this, as it will be more expensive. Laser surgery on animals seems to be a very recent technique here in the UK, as I am struggling to find a vet that is experienced in laser surgery, in my area. We may have to take her to another county in England to get it done. Anyway, I just thought I would ask about the cramps when in heat, as she is definitely uncomfortable and I really don't know what I can do to help her. I can't bear her having any pain. This morning she fell and bumped her head really hard and was crying. It gave us such a fright. She just jumps without thinking and then hurts herself. We are unable to prevent her falling, as she is so quick. We would have to confine her which, obviously, we cannot do. Just have to hope that she eventually learns to be more careful. She seems fine now and I cannot find any bumps or swellings. Thanks again. Luv Franceen |
they do start to behave nastily (like alot of us :)) during this time. They also sleep more and have that depressed look on their face. So it wouldn't suprise me the least if they felt like crap like humans, they look like they do. |
Yes, I agree - Toots certainly looks depressed and miserable and just wants to be left alone. Poor darling. Thanks for your reply. Luv Franceen |
