Can female conceive if pair doesn't TIE Hello. i have a little girl, first timer, who I am trying to get bred by my guy, (this is only his second time) but they 'connect' but do not tie. So she wanders way after standing for 30 sec or so, and they both believe themselves to be done. He is my ch sired male & ch granded on mom's side, and he did mate with a large girl several weeks, and tied easily and successfully. Any comments? I am concerned that HE will thing this new way is better.. and not proceed to tie next time. Has anyone had this kind of problem? Any experience or comments would be helpful. OH yeah... i can stay and pet her head or hold her a little - but he gets offended if i am too involved and that's the end of it. I've often complained about another boy i have being much too aggressive with the girls when breeding - now this guy is just too sensitive!!! *s* |
Many pups are born when parentss don't tie but what you need to do is hold her when he is breeding her or as soon as he stops humping her to make sure she doesn't walk off. it may be a real loose tie and they are pulling apart. |
Thanks for that advise. In my mind I've been thinking it's him - but a 'loose tie' makes sense - - Since this is my little girl's first .... we are still learning her idiosyncrasies. =) I really appreciate your response as I've so been anticipating this mating. Thanks again!!! |
I agree with Dee. I have had breedings take with just an outside tie but we held the male in place about 5 minutes. Usually if a male has a short outside tie then he would be ready to try again in about 5 minutes and then he would be successful. Best of luck. |
I really appreciate your respones. From everything i've read, males only ejaculate during a tie... so i thot i would use the forum, for what is was made for, and ask for some experienced opinions. I really appreciate this site and wish I spent more time reviewing threads. I may have some small experience but have a lot to learn. Again, thank you. Sandra |
Dogs get impregnated when they "tie". The sires penis ejaculates with this gooey stuff (Semen or prostatic fluid) along the the entire member...it does not squirt out like humans do. The dams vulva swells and holds on to his penis, like a suction. That's why they say not to pull them apart or pour water on them to untie them, because it can damage them. When the male is done ejaculating, his penis will go back to it's regualr size and the dam's vulva will release. This normally takes about 10 minutes or so. Here is a website with more info, but you can do a google and read up on more stuff. Breeding - Tie, Male and Female dog breeding tie |
Thank you for your comments. I do understand the process. As these guys are not having a total success - - I was asking if my bitch could still be impregnated even if they do not tie. Your information is helpful and I have researched this, and have some personal experience with the standard procedure, to the degree of knowing of the 3 stages of ejaculates... and am considering trying to collect (if she doesn not take this time around) - altho i'm sure REBEL will not be pleased with my interference! *s* And neither will I i be pleased with having to 'interfere'; but we do what we must to acheive the goals we desire. Thanks again. |
I have had females get pregnant without a tie. You just have to hold the male in until he is done. It takes a little bit of strength as its amazing how 2 small dogs can wiggle out of your hands so easily. Its easier if you have one other person assisting the breeding. |
Thank you for comfirming what bjh wrote earlier. I think we may successful this time around - - - if i can use the advice given. Wish us luck!!!! = ) |
ANOTHER QUESTION... How common is it... First, thank you for the previous advice. My boy finally did get a decent tie on Wednesday & I'm hopeful. 2nd part of the question.. Girl bleeding had stopped - no red blood, very little discharge, she was flagging and accepted male without hesitation - she went 4 days w/o bleeding. NOW, 2 days after being bred, she is bleeding again - - not heavy - thin but definitely red. Is there reason for concern? I have bred several litters, and have not had this experience before. She was bred on the 12th day after original bloody show and the 13th day (tie accomplished). I am concerned that this means she didn't ovulate. She seems in good spirits, eating & drinking well and energetic. It's just me that's concerned & since I have somewhere to run to ... here I am, again! = ) |

Thank you. I thought it was probably normal, for her, but like I stated earlier - - when there is someone to ask that has more experience with more situations that you do - a little reassurance goes a long way; i want to take advantage of the opportunity. Thanx again. |
A year ago we tried to breed our Biewer, Hannah. Leo never got a tie and we pretty much figured that she was at the end of her heat and that we'd missed it, so we didn't even try to hold him. Well 61 days later she gave birth to one little Biewer girl. It was a surprise to us. So, yes, it is possible. |
Good thread..always learning something new.. thanks anne |
Very good thread. And yes, the female can get pregnant without an actual tie. Keep us posted. |
