Pregnant? Hello all, This is my first time on Yorkie Talk and I am looking forward to any advice that you may be able to provide. I have a yorkie, Chloe, who will be 2 years old in July. My mom has a male yorkie, Joey, who is a little over a year old. Chloe was in heat recently. Her and Joey "tied" on May 6th according to my father. (I drop Chloe off at my parents every morning so that she can play with Joey and my Dad can care for her during the day). As of today, then, it has been 16 days. I have a cousin who is in vet school and she told me that vets can perform abdominal palpitations after 20 days of pregnancies, but stated that its not an exact science. I was wondering if you could give me general signs of pregnancy. She is still swollen, but I think she may still be in the period surrounding her "heat" - as this should be the end of her third week in heat. She is very affectionate, but she is always like that when she is in heat. I have considered getting her X-rayed around 45-50 days as suggested by my cousin. I wanted to know, also, if anyone had experience with a female yorkie that is pregnant by a larger male. Chloe is 4.4 pounds and Joey is about 7.4 pounds. Obviously this is my first experience with breeding, so any help would be very much appreciated! |
I just wanted to welcome you to YT:). I am not a breeder but Im sure a few will come answer your questions shortly |
Chloe is 4.4 pounds and Joey is about 7.4 pounds:eek::eek::eek: please watch your girl carefully and welcome to yt do you know how many day's into her cycle she tied if she is bred save your money for a possible c-section again welcome to yt |
I noticed that she was swollen the Thursday before she tied, so it wouldve been five days into her heat. |
i dont know of to many that bred only five day's in but i guess it can happen they are usually in a little bit before they swell do you have any idea of when she first started bleeding as to when swelling occured |
I really am not sure. I was checking her occasionally, because I calculated she would be going into heat around May. (I got her in November and her heat was just ending). I never noticed any blood that many posts have referred to. Like I said, she spends the day with my father while I work (and for him to notice something like that would be nothing short of a miracle!). I bought her diapers incase there was blood, but never had to use them. Once she was swollen I noticed the pink/clear fluid - which was just before her and Joey tied. |
Hi there and WELCOME to YT .... :) I can't help you out on that ... sorry !!! |
Gestation normally lasts about 63 days (sometimes earlier) Take the day that she tied, where your dad witnessed it and add approximately 55 - 60 days to have an approximate date of when the pups will be born. Later down the line, you may want to consider taking her to the vet to check out her bone frame and also to get an ultrasound to see how "large" the pup(s) are in order to prepare whether or not she will need a c-section. |
Thanks for the advice. I will take her to have some abdominal palpitations done soon. The more I read about breeding, pregnancy, etc - the more worried I am about her. Is there any other symptoms/signs that I can look for to determine if she is pregnant? |
4.4 lbs!! pregnant!! No comment.... |
Question and Welcome Hi welcome to YT.. I am just wondering Did you want to have Chloe get Pregnant? I will hope and pray that she did not get Pregnant he was pretty big for her tiny frame. |
Dear YorkieChick, Its comments like yours that initially made me hesitant to post a thread on this website. I adopted Chloe when she was about 1 and a half years old. I have a plan with my vet and she was going to be spade after this heat. Although its really none of your business, this was not a planned pregnancy. I know I speak for many people out there who are tired of being judged and spoken to in nasty ways - (i.e. "no comment."). In fact, you make people out there unwilling to seek out much needed help and guidance in these areas for fear of backlash and judgmental people. Your "no comment" is the least helpful comment that I have received. You have not posted anything helpful to me, in fact. If you want to be helpful, please reserve your judgment and keep your comments (or your "no comments") to yourself. |
Hello, No - as you can read from my longer, more recent post, it was not my intention for her to get pregnant. If she is, I am willing to do whatever necessary to keep her safe and comfortable - of course. Sorry for the rant earlier on. I am quite nervous about the possibility of her being pregnant. Obviously, any negative comments and vibes are not helpful to the situation. |

Thank you. I know that everyone isnt ill-intentioned on this site - just a few. For the most part, I have found everyone to be helpful on the threads and private chats. |
