Lily had her pups on Mother's Day and I haven't given her a bath. I had her groomed a few days before and the shaved her pretty good underneath and her below the tail area. She must have cleaned herself up really well because she doesn't smell at all. As far as the puppies getting the tails docked and dew claws removed, I can't believe a vet would request such a thing. I had two puppies done last week and my bill was $28. It broke down to, $14 office visit and $14 for the puppies. I don't understand having to pay to just walk in their office when they're getting paid for services. |
I didn't have to pay for office visit. I paid 54.00 even. 9.00 a puppy. I don't think that is bad at all. Now I don't know how much I will have to pay to go back and get the sutures out? |

I've never heard of sutures on tails. Our vet has always used surgical glue, if necessary. Yikes, poor babies. I bathe my moms as soon as I can get them out of the pen... as soon as the babies have all nursed and can be away from mom for a few minutes. Just stand her in the utility sink and spray warm water on her tummy and bottom area. Use just a little shampoo on the bottom area. Don't wet all of her, just the important parts. Dry quickly and return to the babies. After a few days you can give a full bath with shampoo. I don't know if you are old enough to remember Sitz baths after childbirth, but I can tell you that sitting in that warm water felt really good after giving birth. That's the same look my moms give me when I spray them with warm water after whelping. (If this is TMI, I apologize). |
