Buy a little boy or stud fee? I am not ready to mate Mya yet as I have lots of preparation to do and make sure I am well educated in every aspect of the process. I would like to mate her with a doll faced, small eared boy around 3 pounds. I was at my vet and just to tease me they showed me this PERFECT little boy. I fell in love with him. They they laughed and said they had just fixed him earlier that day. My vet is impressed with Mya. He knows I would not breed her unless I was perfectly prepared. My vet was supportive because he says that Mya is exceptional, she is smart, in perfect health, has no defects and very mellow socialable dog. She rarely barks which some people prefer. I only want to breed Mya once. We were going to keep one of her puppies. Her other puppies are promised to friends and relatives. I could not get that little boy out of my mind. I was thinking......She could have a playmate NOW. Should I buy a little boy or just find a stud for her and pay the stud fee. I don't know what to do now. *sigh* |
Hi, Cyn. May I offer, my oh-so-humble, opinion, as a non-breeder? :) I was faced with this very same situation, back over 7 & 1/2 years ago. One of my girls, Sydney is a show-quality Yorkie. The owner of her sire, (a beautiful champion male) really was trying to coax me to breed her. (I bought her from the owner of the dam.) I came oh so close! But, the bottom line for me, was that my Sydney was my baby, and I knew I didn't want to risk her with a pregnancy, (the breeders here will tell you all the things than can, and often do, go wrong), and furthermore, I knew that I'd never be able to give up one of her babies. Not even to family or friends. I knew, if someone didn't treat one of her babies exactly as I wished, relationships would be destroyed. That's just my perspective. I bought another Yorkie when Sydney was 2 & 1/2. Best decision for me, and for Sydney. Good luck, let us know what you decide. :aimeeyork Sheila Sheila |
If you are just going to breed her once, I'd just pay out the fee...unless of course you want another baby around! :) |

We will pay a stud fee. We want another little Mya. We will keep one of her puppies for ourselves. My husband reminded me today in the mall (Mya was out with us for 4 hours including a doctor's visit for me) That the number one comment about Mya is how mellow she is. When people say how cute she is she just seems to pose to play up the compliment. I am now thinking about skipping formal training because she knows all the commands and has stopped pulling on her lead. She has learned that not everyone wants to visit with her when I walk her. I think she will pass the the testing to be a therapy dog with out a problem. |
Cyn, I had the same thought just three months ago. I have a lovely female who's now four. I thought I wanted to breed her to get her temperment most of all. After asking a couple of questions on here, I decided that the main reason for me breeding was to get myself another puppy, but if something had happened to my little Gracie I'm not sure I'd ever get over it. We ended up buying a male and I just had him neutered. He's a darling, though not a bit like our female. It's purely your own decision..... |

My goodness, I'll have to tell my girls that not everyone wants to visit with them. :D Of course, they won't believe me. Seriously, that's really neat that she has learned not to pull on her lead. Sheila |
