3 week old puppy dry heaving ? For the last hour or so one of Allies 3 week old puppys has been dry heaving. No vomiting, no temp, normal bowel movements. Why would she be doing this? My vet is gone for the day. And I'm not real worried as she has no other signs And is very active up and crawling around well. So I'm not rushing her to an ER vet which is well over 50 miles away from me. Could it be that she just has a hair or something from nursing in her throat? I've looked but cant see anything |

:( no idea! :( But I sure hope your little one is ok! |
Thanks guys She is sleeping now.. Poor little thing. Even if not sick I know how bad it hurts to have dry heaves. I put my pinky in looking but nothing I could see. But I know a hair gags me. I sure hope thats all it is. |
The same thing happened to one of my 3 1/2 week old babies and he is fine, he just did it the one time and all was normal. I think it was just a hair. I did not cut Tinky down, her coat was so nice that I just keep her wrapped up, so it could have been a hair. |
Poor baby, I pray she will be okay. I would give her a little karo syrup and water to help settle her tummy. Is she nursing? She may have got something stuck in her throat or got a tummy ache. |
Thanks guys thats what I'm thinking /hoping I know I had "puppy flu" go thru 6 week olds before and lost one. I STILL wonder if it was coccidia, even as picky as I am about shoes off. And it tested neg... I'm always washing the wood floors with a mild bleach solution, because we have all the chickens, ducks and geese. Had to do the subQ and everything. It was bad. several in vets for a week. I'm just never had one dry heave like this for over an hour. So I was like Oh nooooo |

Well see I learned something new again, I never knew there was a puppy flu. Any more on it I should learn? I was thinking maybe mommy got ahold of something and it went through her milk but then again all the puppies would do it wouldn't they. I just hope she feels better, I can't stand pucking let alone anything else and for an hour God love her little bones. Lee |

I lost a bigger dog because of it on Mother's day after an ER vet checked her and sent her home 275.00 later. Then I lost a lil 6 week old that night. The next morning I was at MY VETS. He kept some...they were so sick. And sent me home with bags of IV fluids, meds for diarrhea and vomiting. And I had to subq them for days to save them. But yes they all got it. My vet told me after Parvo and coccida testing that it was the puppy flu. I ask what kind of puppy flu? And he said the test to narrow down the virus was expensive and not necessary, as Its all treated the same. He must have been right It took time , but they all got better. Editted to add...I would NEVER go tothat ER vet again...He was horrible |
If it keeps up I would suspect kennel cough. Hopefully it was just a hairball or something. Kennel cough is very contagious and is passed around and back for a possible month or so. |
