AKC vs Others I just want to throw this out there to hear the opinions of others. AKC being the top notch of registries,. What other registry do you consider reputable here in the States? Why are so many breeders having there Dam and Sire registered with AKC choosing to register the litter through another registry? :eyeballpc |
Here I go out on a limb again. The AKC promotes the "sport" of pure-bred dogs. The Westminster Kennel Club dog show is the oldest annual sporting event in the country except for the Kentucky Derby (I believe - I know it's a horse race). They also inspect kennels for record keeping, conditions, etc. The vast majority of other registries simply maintain a data base using AKC records. Obviously this is just my opinion, but what I see happening is that the AKC has been able to weed out the majority of breeders who are operating what we would call puppy mills and the puppy mills have had to turn to the alternate registries to offer papers on their puppies. Some people just don't care about registration at all, don't care to participate in the sporting end of it, and may not be using AKC services just because bloodlines and dog shows don't matter to them. I can't relate to them, but I respect their priorities ;). CJ |
Thanks yorkiegold, I seem to get the picture now. :yorkiesar |
AKC all the way. Most of ALL the others will register mix breeds. NOT A GOOD SIGN. But if people are looking for a pet, they don't care if they are registered or not. |
I definitely trust AKC over most of the other registries, but my ddb is UKC reg'd and I trust that registry as well. |
2 years ago when I registered my pom, I had a horrible experience with one of their customer service rep. Since they got some info wrong in the certificate, I asked for another one to correct the errors. I was confused because I ended up with three certificates. I just wanted to clear things up and figure out which one is valid. I forgot the certificate number or the registry number and the guy who answered the phone laughed at me and sarcastically said that it was foolish of me to call. :questione I WAS MORTIFIED and I started yelling at him. I hated myself for doing that because I'm a CSR myself and hate people yelling at me.... His behaviour was highly uncalled for and even my supervisor who heard me yell, got furious and told me to report him to his manager. He hung up on me  I called back and the lady who assisted me this time knew who I was talking about. He was reported to the supervisor and I got an email from her apologizing in his behalf. :D this is so pff topic but I just wanted to share it with u |
I would want to be registered with the AKC or possibly the Canadian Kennel Club only. Joan and Crystal |
I have akc and apri and aca. I too thought akc was the best and they may be but i just recently found out that they permit inbreeding. I learn something everyday. I was so stupid to think that the dna was to prevent inbreeding.I was told that that is how they get a lot of their show dogs. Don't get me wrong I don't do it.I want do it! |
My puppy was registered UKC. I was under the impression that it is a good registry. I'm not into breeding or showing so I guess it doesn't matter. But still, I'll be interested in other opinions. |
