behavior Changes during pregnancy?? I'm not 100% sure my female is pregnant, but there's a 90% chance she is. She went into heat on April 4th and was bread 2 weeks later, 4 times. Each one resulting in a tie. If I count from the 1st day she tied, she would be 7 days into her pregnancy. But today I took her to the dog park today for the first time since she was in heat, as she's done now. Before then, I took her every day, for the past 8 months without fail! She has always been a very sweet, playful dog. Running around with her friends and so on. Today however, she was very aggressive to just about every dog that came up to her. She even attacked a dog when the do got too close to her toy! It was awful! She was sitting on my lap and another dog came up to say hi, and she started to growl, then the other dog started to bark, and before I knew it, she was went into crazy attack mode and I could barely hold her in my arms as she was trying to jump out to get to the other dog!! Sorry for such a long post, but I've never seen this behavior in my little angel before, and I don't know why or what to do. Thanks for listening, and any feedback would be helpful! |
When a female comes in heat she goes through a lot of hormone changes and whether a dog is bred or not they still can show all the signs of being pregnant. The heat cycle usually makes them more aggressive and moody. This hormonal change will last the full 61 days or so whether she is pregnant or not. It is too early to tell if your girl is pregnant. Some of the early signs are loss of appetite, vomiting and swollen nipples. Most females get the swollen nipples whether they are pregnant or not. I wish you the best with your girl. Keep us posted on how she is doing. |

Should I not have her around other dogs for right now then? I'm afraid she will become unsocial if she doesn't play with other dogs. but if she keeps acting the way she did yesterday, I have no choice! Just hope when its all done, she can be with other dogs again. |
While she is pregnant I would keep her away from parks and other places where strange dogs go. You would not want to risk her catching something while she is pregnant. Hopefully she will get back to her normal friendly self after the pups are born. What kind of food are you feeding her? |
My females get more "clingy" when they are pregnant... that's usually a good sign that mine are pregnant. Best of luck with the pregnancy! :) |
Daisy and Nala show nothing if bred. Allie on the other hand is *witchy* within the first week. She also vomits almost every morning. She is NOT good at being pregnant.:p She almost seems to hate it. But is the best Mama I have once puppies are here. |
Well, Miss Fancy thinks that is just okay to use the bathroom in the house now...she has NEVER...I will take her out and she will teetee and come back in and poop! She is also very clingy bit a little bia to the other dogs. She is a hog now!!! She tries to eat everything in site! |

Sofies' in heat now and she's just pecking when she eats, I worry about her for she's my only one that weighs 5 lbs. 6 oz. so she can't afford not to loose to much weight in my eyes, but then again I'm use to big ol' Tif being 10 to 11 lbs. before she ever got pregnant. So can they not each much all through their 61 days? I just worry about them. This is her 1st heat. Thanks for answering my questions too. :) Lee |
Lee, most females after being bred just go off their feed for a few weeks and then the appetite picks back up, at least that is what I have experienced. I really can't remember if those that were not bred went off their feed or not. The moodiness and moping around will last the full 61 days usually. I know what you are saying about the small nipples. Once they have puppies they will increase in size. |
